Description

T.F. LAGY. CONDIMENT HOLDER.
APPLICATION FILED MAY 14, 1010.
Patented J an. 2 1, 1911.
INVENTOR 790M175 E 400%,
WITNESSES:
ATTORNEY$ To all 'it may concern;
THOMAS E. may, or slow; CITY, IOWA. r g
' CONDIMENT-HOLDER.
."Ap plication filed May '14, 1910. Serial No. 561,323.
Be it known that I, THOMAS F. LACY, citizen of the United States, and a resident of Sioux City, in the county of Woodbury and State of Iowa, have invented an Imroved Condiment-Holder, of which the ollowing isa specification.
. Myinvention is an improvement in that i elass of condiment-holders Which are pro- .VldGd. w th two .or more compartments,
adapted for holding a corresponding number of different condiments, such as salt and pepper. l
My invention is embodied in the improved construction, arrangement, and COIl'lblIltltiOIl of parts hereinafter described, and illus-' trated in the accompanying drawing, in
' Figure-1 is a perspective view of mydmproved condiment-holder. Fig. 2 is a, central' longitudinal section thereof. Fig. 3 is alongitudinal section on the line 3 3 of Fig. ,2.' Fig. 4-is, across section on the line yv indenting or grooving'the body, as shown J 1 4-4 of Fi 2. Fig. 5' is a perspective view .25
of the-'kno serving. as means for adjusting the valve of the condiment-holder.
The body -1 of thev condiment-holder is cylindrical and rovided with a conical perforated'top 2. ear the top, the body 1 is rovided with a shoulder 3', whichv is formed in Figs. 2 and 3.
Below the shoulder 3,there is arranged a longitudinal partition 4 having laterally as inclined wings or' top portions 4, which are provided w1th openings as shown. This partition divides the main portion of the body 1 longitudinally into two chambers or I 4 is preferably so. hat the bodyof the thickness, as shown in com artments ada ted to receive difi'erent con iments, and the'same may be discharged through the openings in the wings 4, from which they pass through theopenings in the top 2. The artition 4 with its wmgs f drmed of a single sheet of tin or other thin metal, b doubling the same on itself at the midd e of its length,
ig. 2. The partition is held in place, that is to say, with its'wings 4 in contact with the Ipartition has double shoulder 3, by means .of the inserted bota tom 5, the lower end of the partition resting in a transverse groove in said bottom, as shown in Fig. 2. The bottom is provided with two openings, one for each of the compartments, and corks 6, or other forms of stopper, are inserted therein.
In the'top portion or compartment of the condiment-holder I arrange a swinging valve 7, which is pivoted in the upper angle of the partition 4, that is to say, midway between its wings 4. This valve is attached Specification of Letters Patent. Patented Jan. 24,1911.
to a rod 8 which is journaled in the sides of the body 1 and provided exteriorly with a milled knob 10, for use in turning it to the right or left for closing one or the other of the openings in the partition wings 4". The inner side of the knob 10 is provided with grooves adapted to engage a slight projection 11 on'the side of the body, such grooves being arranged in such order or relation that thevalve 7 may be adjusted and locked in-anyof three positions; that is to say, the valve may be adjusted to the left to close one compartment, or to the right to close the other, or centrally, as shown by substantially as describe full lines in Fig. 2, whereby both openings are left clear. In Fig. 2, the valve 7 is shown in the neutral position, or midway between the discharge openings of the respective compartments, and the arrows indicate the throw or direction in which the valve may be moved.
It will-be seen that all the principal parts of the condimentholder may be struck u out of thin sheet metal and that the part1- tion may be inserted and *heldin place withoutsoldering or riveting, solely by means of the inserted bottom 5, which, ofcourse, requires to be secured in some suitable manner.
lVhat I claim is i 1. The improved condiment-holder comprisin a hollow body havin' a shoulderment with said shoulder, and an inserted -bott0m which holds the spartition in place,
.2. The improved con iment-holder comprising a hollow body having-circumferen Which it is held supported in due position nil internal rib near its top, a central longiin contact with the aforesaid shoulder, subtudinal partition formed of a sheet of metal stantially as described. .,doubled upon itself and its upper ends ex THOMAS F. LACY. 5 tended laterally and provided with open- I Witnesses:
ings, and .an inserted bottom upon which. E. J. Bunnns,
the lower end of the partition rests and by EDD C. WILLIAMS.
