To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that we, \VILLL\M I). Cram and HENRY F. DAVIS, citizens of the United States, and residents of the city of St. Louis and State of Missouri, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Communion- Services, of which the following is a specification.

Communion services comprising separate or individual cups or glasses which are held on serving and collecting trays, have been employed, but difficulty has been experienced in the confusion between the filled and empty cups or glasses. Also, the emptied cups are usually placed in inverted position on the tray and the drainings make it neces sary to wash the tray after using, which is troublesome.

The object of the present invention is to produce a serving device which will obviate confusion between the filled and empty glasses; and, further, to arrange the device so that only the collecting portion need be cleansed. The further advantages will hereinafter more fully appear.

The invention consists in the parts and in the arrangements and combinations of parts hereinafter described and claimed.

In the accompanying d 'awing which forms part of this specification and wherein like symbols refer to .like parts wherever they occur, Figure 1 is a top plan view of a serving device embodying our invention, one of the removable collecting trays or receptacles being partially detached. As illustrated in the drawing, the device comprises a circular bottom plate 1 having an upstanding peripheral flange or bead 2. Mounted on the plate 1 are a multiplicity of posts 3.on top of which is mounted a plate This plate 1 is also circular and has segmental portions removed therefrom and the remaining portion is provided throughout with a multiplicity of perforations 5 in which the individual cups or chalices (i are seated when filled.

As shown in the d awings, the posts 3 are arranged near the marginal portions of the plates 1 and 4t, and also near the centers thereof, the central posts being preferably disposed radially on medial lines through the space provided by the segmental cut-out portions of the top plate. The two plates 1 and 1 are preferably secured to the opposite ends of the posts by screws 7 which are inserted through perforations in said plates into threaded bores in said posts.

Substantially wedge-shape or segmental trays or receptacles are inserted into the segmental spaces provided in the upper plate 4. These trays or receptacles rest upon the bottom plate 1, and they are fitted behind the flanged or beaded peripheral portion of said plate 1, so that they are retained in place. Said trays or receptacles are also provided with forked or bifurcated inner end portions 9 which are adapted to straddle the respective central posts 3 when the trays are in place, and thereby steady the same. However, in some cases, these forked portions 9 may be dispensed with, as the trays may be made exact counterparts of the segmental spaces so that the side walls of the trays fit snugly against the opposite edges of the top plate; and the retaining flange or head 2 holds the tray against outward movement.

By the above described construction, the cups or chalices (5 may be deposited in the collecting receptacles without any special degree of care as to their position therein. By this arrangement, there is no confusion between the filled and empty glasses; and the collecting trays being removable, they may be easily cleansed.

Obviously, instead of making the collecting trays removable, as shown in the drawings, they may be fixed on the serving device, as the principal object of the invention is to obviate confusion between the filled and empty glasses.

\Vhat we claim is:

1. A serving device comprising a carrier having a portion provided with a multiplicity of separate seats for individual cups, and also having thereon a receptacle without separate seats but adapted to receive the empty cups collectively.

2. A communion service comprising a carricr having a portion provided with a multiplicity of sop: ate seats for individual cups, and a detachable receptacle upon said carrier, said receptacle being without separate seats but adapted to receive the empty cups collectively.

3. A communion service comprising a carrier having a portion provided with symmetrical groups separate seats for individual cups, and also having thereon a plurality of receptacles, said receptacles being without separate seats and symmetrically disposed between the respective groups of seats and adapted to receive the empty cups collectively.

4:. A communion service comprising a circular carrier having a fixed portion provided with groups of separate seats for individual cups, said groups of seats being spaced apart and symmetrically disposed, and a series of removable receptacles on said carrier, said receptacles being without separeceptacles in said segmental spaces arranged and adapted to receive the empty chalices collectively.

6. A communion service comprising a circular carrier which is provided with a mulj tiplicity of separate seats for individual chalices, said carrier having a series of sym metrically disposed segmental spaces, and receptacles detachably fitted in said segmental spaces, said receptacles being adapted to receive the empty chalices.

7. A communion service comprising a bot tom plate and a top plate spaced therefrom,

said top plate having a cut-out portion and being provided with a multiplicity of separate seats for individual cups, and a receptacle fitted on said bottom plate and into the cut-out portion of said top plate, said.

receptacle being arranged and adapted to receive the empty cups collectively- 8. A communion service comprising a circular bottom plate and a circular top plate spaced therefrom, said bottom plate having a peripheral upturned head or flange, and said top plate having segmental cut-out portions and being provided with separate seats for individual cups or chalices, and segmental receptacles fitted into the segmental spaces in said top plate and resting on said bottom plate inside its peripheral bead.

9. A communion service comprising a circular bottom plate and a circular top plate spaced therefrom, said top plate having segmental cut-out portions and being provided with separate seats for individual cups or chalices, and counterpart segmental receptacles fitted into the segmental spaces in said top plate and resting on said bottom plate.
