Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed March 26, 1910.
To all whom it 'ITlc'l l/ concern:
Beit knownthatl, Cnrnn N.FLE1SCI-I1[ \N, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Toledo, in the county of Lucasvand State of Ohio, have invented a certain new and useful Ticket Printing and Registering Apparatus; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the figures of reference marked thereon, which form a partof this specification.
My invention relates to machines of the class adapted to print tickets, coupons or the like in continuous strip form and to register the number of tickets printed.
The object of my invention is the provision of an improved apparatus of this class which is strong, compact and inexpensive in its construction, simple and efficient in its operation, and adapted to auto matically register the number of tickets printed.
The invention is fully described in the following specification, and a preferred embodiment thereof illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which,
Figure 1 is a front elevation of an apparatus embodying the invention with por tions broken away, and the base in central vertical section. Fig. 2 is a top plan view of the same, and Fig. 3 is a vertical section thereof on the line at a in Fig. 1.
Referring to the drawings, 1 designates a base block or member of any suitable form, which has its top recessed as at 2 to receive the impression roll 8, the trunnions 4 of which work in vertical slots or recesses 5 in the end walls of the recess 2, as indicated in Fig. 1. The impression roll 3 is supported for yielding vertical movements by coiled compression springs 6 which are mounted in vertical sockets 7 in the base and have their upper ends thrust against the under sides of the trunnions 4 of such wheel.
Rising from the base member 1 is an inverted U -shaped frame 8 the lower ends of which are provided with feet 9 which rest upon and are secured to the base block 1 by screws 10, or in any other suitable manner.
Mounted within the frame 8 over the impression roll 3 in peripheral contact therewith is the printing cylinder 11, the trunnions 12 of which are journaled in suitable unirnn siia nsrirrnnr ornrcn.

An inking roll 13 is mounted upon the printing cylinder 11 in peripheral contact therewith and has its trunnions 11 projecting within vertical slots 15 provided in the legs or uprights of the frame 8 in register therewith, such trunnions being acted on by coiled contraction springs 18 or in any other suitable manner to hold the inking roll in yielding contact with the printing cylinder. Slotted plates 17 are adjustably secured to the uprights of the frame 8 by screws 18 and act upon the trunnions 1 1 to limit the upward movements thereof.
19 designates an inverted U-shaped saddle member which straddles the inking roll 13 in a vertical plane with its axis and has the terminals or lower ends of its legs provided with rolls 20 which rest upon the substantially elliptical shaped cams 21 carried at opposite sides of the printing cylinder 11 on the trunnions thereof. To adapt the member 19 to have vertical movements relative to the inking roll 13 upon a turning of the cams 21 the legs of such member are provided with vertically disposed slots 22 through which the trunnions 1 1 of the inking roll project. The upper end of the member 19 has a rod 23 projecting upwardly therefrom through an opening in the top or loop portion of the frame 8 and provided at its upper end with a stud 21 which works within a slot 25 provided in a horizontally-disposed arm 26 intermediate its ends. The arm 26 is pivoted, as at 27,
to a boss or upright 28 at one side of the top portion of the frame 8 and has its opposite end pivotally attached as at 29 to the free end of an ar 30 projecting from the shaft 31 of a registering mechanism 32 of any suitable type. The rod 23 and arms 26 and 30 are so arranged and connected that the shaft 31 of the registering mechanism is rocked to register a number at each upright movement of the member 19. A coiled compression spring 33 encircles the rod 23 intermediate the tops of the member 19 and frame 8 and acts to normally hold the member 19 in lowered position.
The printing cylinder 11 is shown in the present instance as being provided with two ticket forms whereby two tickets are printed at each rotation of such roll. and for this reason the cams 21 are arranged with their opposite end portions at substantially equal distances from the roll axis to elevate the saddle member 19 twice for each rotation of such roll. A handle 31 is provided at the end of one of the trunnions 12 of the printing cylinder to provide means for operatii'ig the apparatus. In order that the ticket: strip may be perforated between the tickets when printed to facilitate a tearing of the same from the strip, the printing cylinder 11 is provided intermediate the ends of the ticket forms thereon with perforating knives or strips 31 as best shown in Fig. 3.

At each revolution of such handle two ticket impressions are made upon the strip in successive order and the strip is perforated, to facilitate a tearing of the tickets therefrom, by action of the perforating knives or strips 31 upon the 1l'11p1'SSl0]l10ll 3. The contact of the inking roll 13 with the printing cylinder 11 causes a rotation of such roll to apply ink to the printing cylinder. Upon each half revolution of the printing cylinder 11 the cams 21 act upon the rolls 20 carried by the member 19 to effect a vertical move ment. of such member to oscillate the arms 26 and 30 and effect a rocking of the shaft 31 to register a ticket within the registering mechanism I wish it understood that my invention is not limited to any specific construction or arrangement of the parts except in so far as such limitations are specified in the claims.
Having thus described my invention, What I claim new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is,
1. In an apparatus of the class described, the combination of a base having an opening at its top and sockets extendingdownwardly from the opposite end portions of such opening, compression springs mounted in said sockets, an impression roll journaled in said opening and having its trunnions bearing on said springs, a frame rising from said base, a printingcylinder and an inking roll mounted for relative yielding movements within said frame, the inking cylinder having peripheral contact with said impression roll, g ins rotatable yith the printing cylinder, a registering mechanism, and means moved by said cams at least mentions a if i'o'n of the printing'cyl'indertq.actuate the registering mechanism.'

In an apparatus of the class described, the combination of a frame, a printing cylinder journaled in said frame, an inking roll journaled in the frame above the cylinder, cams rotatable with the cylinder, a yieldingly movable reeiproeatory partstraddling the inking roll and printing cylinder with its terminals riding on said cams, a registering mechanism carried by the frame, and connections between said part and mechanism whereby the latter is actuated at each reciprocatory movement of said part.
4. In an apparatus of the class described, the combination of a base, a frame part rising therefrom, an impression roll yieldingly mounted in said base, a printing cylinder journaled in said frame and peripherally coacting with said roll, an inking roll mounted in said frame above the printing cylinder and yieldingly coacting therewith, cam members rotatable with the printing cylinder, a part straddling the inking roll and having its terminals riding on said cam member, a registering mechanism carried by the frame, and connection between said part and mechanism whereby the registering mechanism is actuated at each reciprocatory movement of said part.-
