UNITED STATES PATENT EDWARD J. SHEEHAN; OF NEW YORK, N. Y., ASSIG-NOR TO ROYAL TYPEWRITER COM- PANY, OF NEW YORK, N. Y. A CORPORATION OF NEW JERSEY.
TYPE-WRITING MACHINE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Jan. 10,1911.-
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that-I, EDWARD J. SHEEHAN, a citizen of the United States of'Alnerica, residing in the borough of Brooklyn, city and State of New York. have invented a certain Improvement in TypeWVriting Machines, offwhich the following is a specificatxon.
This invention relates to the paper table of typewriting machines and comprises spring tension means holding the table in normal position.
.The general object sought is to avoid vibration in the operation of the machine and to therefore reducenoi'se, and for protecting its ornamented front surface during handling or transportation.
In the accompanying drawings: Figure 1 is a side elevation, showing the various transverse shafts 1n cross section, and thepaper table in normal position. Fig. 2, a
like view showing the paper table tilted forward: and Fig. 3, adetail perspective view showing the tension devices by which. the tilting table is held in position.
1 is the usual rock shaft to which the paper table 2 is attached. At one or more points upon the rock shaft there is a cam block 3, cotiperatin'g ;with which is a leaf spring 4; rigidly secured to a railsuch as the Application filed October-20, 1909. Serial No. 523,555.
margin stop rail located in rear of the rock shaft 1. The end of the leaf spring is bent to form in side elevation a V-shapecl portion l which. when the parts are in normal position, as in Fig. 1 seats in a notch 3 in the cam block 3 thereby imposing upon the block and consequently upon the rock shaft 1 a spring tension that holds the aper table firmly and reduces jarring and thereof during the operation of the machine. When the paper table is tilted forward, as
in Fig. 2 the leaf spring in rear of the V- shaped part it engages the end 3 of the cam' block and tends to return the table to normal position. The table is also capable of being pressed reamvardly against the tension of the spring i I claim:.
A paper' table, a rock shaft to which secured, a cam block attached to the rock shaft and a leaf spring mounted upon a part of the carriage and cooperating with the cam block to hold'the paper table in normal position.
In testimony whereof, I have hereunto subscribed my name. EDWARD J. SHEEHAN. Witnesses: v
