Description

No. 878,941. PATENTBD FEB. 11, 1908.
A. W. GRQUSHORE.
ATTACHMENT FOR TYPE WRITERS. APPLICATION FILED JULYlZ, 1907.
2; in no as ALLEN w. OROUSHORE, or LINCOLN PLACE, PENNSYLVANIA.
ATTACHMENT FOB TYPE WRITERS.
To all whom it may. concern:
Be it known that I, ALLEN'W. CRoUsHonn, a citizen of the United States ofAmerica,
a residing-at Lincoln'Plaee, in the county of Allegheny and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Attachments for Ty e-Writers, of which the following is a speei cation, reference being bad therein to the accompanying 1 the specified margin.
drawing.
This invention relates to attachments for typewriters, and. the invention has for its object to provide the paper sup ort ofa typewriter with a novel guide wluc can be easily; and quickly adjusted to engage the edge ofthe piece of paper being written upon, whereby if the paper is temporarily removed from the machine, it can be exactly replaced with It is a well known fact that when a manuscript w 1th carbons and carbon papers are removed from a typewriting machine, that it rather difficult to properly replace the same, whereby the writing upon the carbon copies will correspond with the writing upon the original copy. Providing the ends of the carbon comes and the original copy are evenly matched, my improved guide attachment. will insure a correct position of the manuscript papers in a typewriting machine, this being accomplished without interfering out ihuclvlabor. a
. The invention will be hereinafter described with the mechanism of a typewriter and with- I indetail, and reference will now be had to the drawing; wherein,
Figure l is a perspective view of a detachable paper support of a typewriting mach ne, equipped with the attachment, 2 is a cross sectional view of the same, illustrating an endview of the attachment, and Fig.3 is a l'rontelev ation of a paper support, illustrating the manner in which theattachmenteon rectly nmitioiisQpa )ers.
In the accompanying drawings, 1 designates a portion of the. carriage of a typewriter, having a detachable pivoted paper support 2 for supporting and guiding a piece of paper 3 bei-ieath the platenvrell 4 of atypewriter.
I Upon the rear side of the support 2 at the right hand'end thereof, 1 solder or otherwise secure a channel-shaped. guide-5 to a slotted Specification a Letters Patent. Antwan-manl 12.1907. sum lilo. 3 3.451.

platefi, the end of. said plate being contracted to provide an extension 7 having a forwardly extending arm -8, the end 9 of which is bent upwardly. The slotted plate 6 is adjustably held in engagement with the guide 5 by a set screw 10 extending throu h the slot 11 of said plate, and engaging in the guide 5. v i
The guide J and the plate 6 can be gradu-.
ated as at 12, whereby the arm 8 can be set any desired distance from the end of the paper support 3. For instance, where a piece of work is removed from the ty ewriting machine, and is not to be comp eted for some time, the distance of the arm 8 from the end of'the support 3 can be marked upon the piece of work, whereby prior to placing the work in the machine, the arm 8 can be adjusted to properl position the piece of work. This is hard y necessary in the majority of instances, as the arm 8 simply serves as an'object against which the edges of original and carboncopies can be placed,
when thecopies are being positioned in a machine.
The attachment insures perfect-and clean work and saves considerable time when replacing an ori inal and carbon papers and copies in a mac ine. The attachment is constructed' of light and durable metal, and can be easily secured to the paper supports of various writing machines.
Having fully described my invention What I claimand desire to secure by Letters Pat-- cut, is
An attachment fortypewriters comprising the combination with a rearwardly-extending paper table, of a flanged graduated guide "secured to one side thereof, a slotted plate V mounted between the flanges of said guide and having one end provided with an extension, a forwardly projecting arm integral with said extension and having the end thereof bent upwardly, and a set-screw extending through the plate and engaging the guide for securing-"the plate in various fixed positions. In testimony in the presence of two witnesses.
