HOSE-HOLDER.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, J AMES DOHERTY, citizen of the United States, residing at San Diego, in the county of San Diego and State of California, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Hose-Holders; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

My invention relates to a hose holder and has for its object the provision of improved means for holding, clamping and directing fire and hydrant hose, upon ladders, roofs, streets, floors, and all places where it is necessary and desirable to handle hose.

Further objects and advantages will be set forth in the detailed description which now follows.

In the accompanying drawing illustrat ing my invention Figure 1 is a perspective view of the apparatus. Fig. 2 is a view of the apparatus secured to a ladder. Fig. 3 is a side view of a handle with one swivel joint in section. Fig. 4 is a side view of a handle adapted to have pieces of gas pipe screwed into the ends'thereof in place of a specially constructed support.

Referring more particularly to the drawing, numeral 1 designates the principal leg or support which is made preferably of steel and is made of a curved form for the purpose of giving additional strength and for engaging with the rungs of a ladder, and having thereon hooks 2 and 3 for engaging with ladders or attaching inside of window sills, thereby taking the weight of the attached hose and the reaction, when playing a stream of water from the hose. Upon the upper end of the leg is a loop 4, carrying a loose bolt 5, which is adapted to engage and secure links 6, and 7, which carry respectively halves of the clamp 8. The clamp is provided with handle 11, connected by two swivel joints 9 and 16.

It will be seen that the legs 13 and 14 which may be constructed of tool steel may be easily detached and used as pinch bars for digging a hole through a roof or wall, enabling a fireman to quickly get at a fire under conditions that would be impossible without carrying an extra set of tools. The legs may also be adjustedfor length, permitting the setting of the hose at any angle desired.

Other hose clam sare limited to one size of hose only, whi e this clamp, having a triple joint and a strap, will carry several sizes equally well.

The leg is sharpened at the end 3, and can be thrust into a roof, or floor, or ground, and the leg as thus set, acts as a brace against the reaction of the hose. The hook 2, can be placed upon any rung of the ladder at any point, and if water is turned on too quickly, perhaps save the fireman from a fall. The legs 13, and 14, being attached to the clamp by a swivel joint, may serve as handles for carrying the hose.

In cases of imminent peril from falling walls and the like, the hose may be left hooked in position while playing the stream of water.

From the foregoing description it will be seen that simple and eflicient means are herein provided for accomplishing the objects of the invention, but while the elements shown and described are well adapted to serve the purposes for which they are intended, it is to be understood that the invention is not limited to the precise construction set forth, but includes within its purview such changes as may be made within the scope of the appended claims.

What I claim is:

1. A hose holder, comprising a supporting leg of curved form, hooks upon each end thereof, a sharpened point upon the lower end, a triple jointed clamp attached thereto, and two legs that are attached by means of a double swivel joint to the clamp, substantially as set-forth.
