SNOW-REMOVING APPARATUS.
Specication of Letters Patent.
p Patented Jan.3, 1911.
Application filed September 3, 1910. Serial No. 580,846. ,l
f 'To all whom it may concern:
. Be it known that I, LUEDERVRAISCHEN, a
l citizen of the United States, residing at San Franc1sc0, in the county of San Francisco specification.
and State of California, have invented new '4 and useful Improvementsl in Snow-Removing Apparatus, of which the following is a The present invention relates to an apparatus for removing snow from streets, roads, and railways, the object of the invention being to provide an apparatus of this character which will be of greater etliciency, power,
and convenience than those heretofore used.
In the accompanyingdrawing, Figure 1 is a vertical longitudinal section of an apparatus constructed in accordance with my invention; Fig. 2 is a broken plan View thereof. y
In the present instance, I have illustrated my invention as installed upon an automobile for the purpose of removing the snow from streets or roads, but it will be evident from the disclosure of its construction that it can be equally well applied to locomotive engines or cars for the purpose of removing the snow from railw'ays. i
Referring to the drawing, 1 indicates an automobile, the detailed construction of which is immaterial to the present invention, and its disclosure is therefore omitted. Upon the front portion of said automobile is mounted4 the casing; of a combustion chamber 2, comprisin la base plate 3, a back 4 sloping rearward y upward, and a combined top and sides 5 also sloping rearwardly upward. The said sides are spaced from sald base plate a short distance to provide a nar-y row outlet 6 for the hot gases from the combustion chamber. Said plate is wedgeshaped or triangular in form, and the sides are also wedge-shaped. The outlet @6 .is
I therefore also wedge-shaped, so that the hot Aso gases issuin from said outletare directed laterally an forwardly.
7 indicates an oil burner connected with an oil tank 8, and directed forwardly into said combustion chamber. Also directed into saidl chamber are the front ends of air conduits 9, which are connected with a common conduit 1() leading from a blower 11 4 driven from a gasolene engine 12 carried 4 upon the automobile.
into said combustion'chamber not only in- I.sures perfect combustion of the oil but also The air thus directed produces a great volume of heated air, which issuing from the outlet 6 withgreat pressure, 1s discharged to a considerable distance, and melts the snow lwithin a considerable range on each sideV of the automobile. A chimney 13 having a damper 14 is provided by which the products of combustion can be allowed to escape, when it is desired that they should not pass through the outlet 6. Lateral outlets. 15 are su plied to said chimney, either of which, if djesired, can be connected with a hose for discharging the heated air at a considerable distance from the vehicle.
It is to be understood that l do not limit my invention to the precise details of construction herein shown as they may be varied considerably without departing from the spirit of the invention.
1. In combination with a vehicle, and
means carried by the vehicle for propelling -thereby for forcing them through said outlet, substantially as described.
2. In' combination with a vehicle, and means carried by the vehicle for propelling the same, a combustion chamber arranged at the front end of the vehicle and having, close to the round, an outlet arranged to direct they proc ucts of combustion horlzontally and in a partly forward and partly lateral direction, on each side of the vehicle, a horizontal base plate extending outwardly beyond said outlet, means carried by the vehicle for producing said products of combustion and means carried thereby for forcing them through said outlet, substantially as described. i
3. In combination with a vehicle, and means carried by the vehicle for propelling the same, a combustion chamber arranged at the front end of the vehicle and formed in close proximity to the ground with an outlet o ening which is wed e-shaped in form and directed laterally an( forwardly, means carried by the vehicle forproducing said products of combustion and means carried llO | gases into said combustion chamber, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I have-hereunto set my hand in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
LUEDER RASCI-IEN.
