To all whom 'it may cancer-n:
Be it known that I, JAMEs SEAWELL, a citizen of the United States, residing at Nashville, in the county of Davidson and State of Tennessee, have invented or discoverecl certain new and useful Improvements in Game Devices, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.
This invention relates to a game device or apparatus which is in the nature of a puzzle and which is of a Character to aford much lamnsement.
The invention comprises a somewhat flat box-like structure open at its top and provided within its inclosing side and end walls with an incline at the end of the highest part of which are located two open-topped pockets or wells having openings in their walls at their lower parts, facing toward said incline.
The game is played with two balls or marbles, and the feat to be accomplished is to hold the game device or box in the hand, and then, by tilting the same, cause both of the balls or marbles to travel up the incline and fall into the pockets or wells. Should only one ball or marble enter a pocket or well it will be liable to escape through the opening therein, in tilting the device in an effort to imprison the other ball or marble.
In the accompanying drawing Figure 1 is a plan view of the new game device or box. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section thereof on line 2-2, Fig. 1, and 8 is a cross section on line 3 3 Fig. 1.
Referring to the drawing, 12 denotes the bottom of the game box which is provided with inclosing side and end walls 13. Rising from the bottom 12 is an incline 14 at the raised end of which are located two pockets or wells 15 the open tops of which are preferably on a level, or approximately so, with the raised end of the said incline. The walls of the pockets 15, on the sides thereof facing toward the incline 14, are formed with openings 16 extending to the level of the upper surface of the bottom 12 of the game box. The incline 14 is preferably provided with a longitudinal opening 17; and a transverse baflie-plate or stop 18 is, in the preferred form of the invention, located beneath said incline.

This, it will be understood, is very diflicult to do, without touching the balls; for if only one ball be located in a pocket it is very liable to escape'therefrom, through an'opening 16, in tilting the box in an efi'ort to cause the other ball to enter the other pocket. The battle-plate or stop 18 serves to prevent the balls from becoming wedged or stuck beneath the incline 14.
The game box or device may be made of any suitable material, as pasteboard, wood, or sheet metal; and the balls 19 may also be of any suitable material, as will be understood.
The invention7 is not to be understood as being limited to the details herein shown, or to any particular size of the game box or balls, or to the height of the inclosing walls of the box, as these may be varied widely without departing from the spirit of the invention.
Having thus described my invention I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patentz- 1. A game device comprising a box with inclosing sides, an incline rising from the bottom of the said box, and two open-topped pockets at the raised end of said incline the walls of said pockets, on the sides thereof facing said incline, being provided with openings.
2. A game device comprising a box with inclosing sides, an incline rising from the bottom of the said box, and two open-topped pockets at the raised end of said incline, the walls of said pockets, on the sides thereof facing said incline, being provided with openings, and a transverse battle plate beneath said incline.
