lie it known that I, Jam's Mane-vac, a citizen of the ignited States, and resident of Pawtucket, c unty of Providence, State of lthode Island. have invented an Improvemeat; in Thread-Parting Mechanism for Looms, of which the following description, in connection with the accompanying drawing. is a specification. like characters on the like parts.
This invention 're ates to thread parting mechanism employed on automatic fillingrc ilenishing looms to sever the old or spent filling adjacent the shuttle. upon a change of tilling, the filling thread being parted and clamped by a suitable device and while clamped the severed pit-cc is hrougl", into positlrm to be out adptcent the cloth lay a temple thread-cutter. Looms so ecuipped are well known in the art, and United States Patent No. 701,988 granted June 10, 1902 to Roper is one example of such a structure, and means is therein shown for catching between jaws the severed piece of thread and gradually working it forward and out of the way. This is to prevent such iec'e of thread from being caught bv the fresh riding unit carried by it into the cloth.

The combined threadmrter and thread-clamp, indicated as a who e at C, Fig. it, may also be substantially such as shown in said patent, and neither the patter and clamp nor the other part of the mechanism described forms any novel part of my inventiomand as all are well known no further description is necessary. Herein I have retained the upright, stationary arm E, Fig. 1. which forms a part of the thread-catcher of the patent, dispensing with the other parts, the rearwardly extended head c of the curm herein constitutin a. support for the severed piece of thread and serving as the fixed memher of the thread-remover. The cooperating member, in accordance-with my invention, is shown as a brush comprising a huh 1 provided with hriutlzca 2 and mounted to rotate on a horizonta mind 3 between ears 4 of a stand 5 rigidly mounted on the breast-beam B of the loom and extended rcnrwordly above the sup )ort a, so that the bristlco oi the rotatable rush will sweep ow the top of said support. A circular ratchet 6 is 2:2- cured to one end of the brush hub,tobe acted u mn by a awl 7 formed on the rear end of e nt paw -carrier 8 having a. slot 9, Fig. 2, to receive the stud 3, a spring 10 between the stud head 11 and pawl-carrier priming the 9 letter against a boss 12 on the outer side of the adjacent ear 4. The front end :of the pawl-carrier is pivotally connected with one end of a lever 13 fulcrumed at 14 on the stand 5, the other end 01? said lever being connected by a link J15 with the pin on the shuttle-feeder Y, as shown in Fig. 1.

After the severed pieces of thread are swept forward by the )ru-h to n ptmtion in front of it the -hn'tin" or jarring of the loom soon causes them o drop ff the support while they annot movelm kward thereon on account of the bruab.
The structur is -imple and etl'e 'tiv and the wear is eompar-itivelv slight. inasmuch as rotative mm-en'iem of the bru-h is effected only when filling i:- replenished.
Having fully described my invention. what I claim as new and de-xire to s cure by Letters Patent is:-
