MULTIPLE-JET-ZPIPE MOUTHIEIECE.
Application filed October 8, 1907.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Dec. 27, 1910.
Serial No. 396,467.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CARL KUNZELMANN, Sr., a mechanician and a subject of the Grand Duke of Baden, residing at the city of Sackingen-on-the-Rhine, in the Grand Duchy of Baden, German Empire, have invented a new and useful Multiple-Jet-Pipe Mouthpiece; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same.
This invention has reference to jet pipe mouth pieces of the kind, in which a regulating or adjusting member, provided with several jet nozzles, is displaceable in a plane, in ghich the axis of the pipe is likewise situate The novel feature, characterizing the invention, as compared with the arrangements previously known, resides in the fact, that the regulating or adjusting member is positively connected to a hand lever, which can be swung parallel to the plane of movement of the regulating or adjusting member and which is provided with a spring acting locking member or tappet, engaging with notches of the jet pipe. This manner of arranging the parts produces the advantage, that the handling and the carrying of the jet throwing pipe is rendered considerably easier, particularly when mounting a ladder with such pipe, the said jet throwing pipe being secured to the belt or girdle of the patrolmens suit by means of a holder, fastened to such belt and by means of the handle of the apparatus, which can be adjusted and locked in position parallel to the axis of the said jet pipe, thus allowing the hose man to have his hands free. Besides, a spray may be connected to the adjusting member, being mounted upon one of the nozzles.
Upon the drawing a ct pipe mouth piece of the kind above mentioned is shown in Figure 1 in longitudinal section and in Figs. 2 and 3 in elevation in different positions of the hand lever.
The adjusting or regulating, member 0 which is diplaceable in a plane including the axis of the said pipe, along a prismatic guide way 5, is provided in the well known manner with a number of jet nozzles d, e, f of different widths, and its displacement is effected by means of a hand lever 9 (Figs. 2 and 3) rotatably mounted on the jet pipe (1, the said lever being provided with a fork shaped end piece which surrounds one of the jet nozzles d, e, f, thereby moving the nozzle into alinement with the bore 2'. This hand lever g is oscillatingly mounted on its pivots and parallel to the plane of movement of the adjusting or regulating member 0 and is provided with a spring acting locking tappet Z which engages with one of the notches is provided on the jet pipea, when the adjusting or regulatingmember is adjusted. The hand lever g which is thus made to oscillate and which can be locked in position, does not only make it possible to adjust the jet throwing pipe nozzle in an easymanner, so as to correspond to a certain width of nozzle in accordance with the amount of water to be ejected and according to the pressure required, by displacing the adjusting or regulating member, but by means of the said hand lever the carrying of the jet pipe is considerably facilitated for the hoseman who, on mounting a ladder, is allowed all freedom of movement by the fact that the hand lever in the locked position (Figs. 1 and 2) is merely inserted into the holder provided on the belt or shoulder strap of the patrolmans suit.
What I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States is 1. In a jet pipe mouthpiece, the combination of an adjusting member provided with a plurality of nozzles, displaceable in the plane of the axis of the hose pipe, a prismatic guide-way for said adjusting member, a hand-lever actuating the adjusting member, and means for locking the lever in the desired position.
2. In a et-pipe mouth-piece, the combination of an adjusting member provided with a plurality of nozzles displaceable in the plane of the axis of the hose-pipe, a prlsmatic guide-Way for said adjusting member, a hand-lever for operating said adjusting member, and locking means for holding the desirednozzle in the axis of the hose-pipe, substantially as set forth.
3. In a jet-pipe mouth-piece, an adjusting member having mounted thereon a plurality of nozzles, moving in a plane parallel to the name to this specification in the presence of ZLXlS of the main hose-plpe, 1n combmation two-subsoriblng Witnesses.
With a hand-lever actuatin said adjustin i inember and lneansfor locfiing any desire CARL KUNZELMANN nozzle in the axial line of the main hose- Witnesses:
pipe, substantially as set forth. .LEONORE MEINHARDT,
In testimony whereof, I have signed my Jos. H. LEUTE.
