Description
A c stent @Wina nnwrn 1?.' RUSSELL,m orMANLiUs, NEW YORK.
`Letters Patent N 97 ,965, dated December 14, 1869.
i IMPRovED oLo'I'Hes#Warnes:xa.`
Th Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making partfof the same `To all` whom. 'it 'may concern Be itknown that LEDWIN P; Russnemof the town of `Manlius, in the county ot' Onondaga, and State of New York, have invented a `new and iniproved Clothes -Wringerg and I do hereby declarethat.
the following is a full, clear, and exact description of vthe same, reference `being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters ot' reference marked thereon, wherein Figure l is a perspective view of the whole machine. p 1
Figure 2 isa like view of the attchingmrrangenient. i i 'p A` isltlie .upper 1111er, which ina-y be made of wood, or of wood and rubber combined, in the ordinary form, or Iany other material in common use.
In like manner, and of about the saine size, I make au` under roller, B, with a `loose rubber tube, a, (with a bore somewhat larger than the rollen) encircling the same, and `large enouglnso that, when used, it will operate as an eccentric band.
By making the rubber' tube a loose upon the roller, it presents a softer and more flexible surface, takes less material, and obviates the diionlties which arise when the drive-roller turns on thc shaft, asis apt to be the casewith rubber rollers. p l
In my machine, the rubber tube'a. is i'ed between the rollers, making nearly as many revolutions as the drive-roller. p Y y A like rubber tube may also he vused upon the upper roller A,dispensing with it upon the lower roller; or, if desired, both may be used. Y p
C and C' arecnd supports, made of metal, `in pairs,
` substantially in the form shown in the drawings, with a hole, 1, for the bearing of the shaft, D, of the under roller B, and `with an arm, e, havingja hole, j', for
the bolt, which holds the swing-lever arrangements F F', and it is made to. rest `upon the swing-standards S S by means of theshonldcry, through which is a hole for ascrew-bolt, h., held by the tail-nut n.
The standards S Syiu'e made wit-h a base, m, to rest on the top 0fthe tlib, and with a shank, In., for one side of the tub, and shank o for the other side, on which is an arbor, p, for the cam or. eccentric-lever l which forms an easy and effectual means of fastening the wriuger to the tub.
By means of the screw-bolt hy and the tail-hut In., the standar-(lss S may be readily adjusted to tubs oi different diameters, and easily held in position.
The end supports C and C are also provided with an arm, q, to receive therubber spring t, which holds down the swing-lever arrangements F F'.
The swing-lever arrangements F and Fare pivoted to the arms, e, of the end supports C andC' in anyordinary manner, and consist of a main lever, M, which, by a proper hole and bearing, sustains the upper roller A; an auxiliary lever, Hf, pivotcd to the outer end of the main lever M, with a cam-bed or beds, s z', at the inner end thereof, and a proper sh'ank at the outer end, for receiving the rubber spring t; and oi" a cani breccentric-lever, a', pivotedl upon the lnain lever M, land made to operate the auxiliary lever W, all arranged and operated substantially asshowu in the drawings.
The ends are. connected and heldin place by any ordinary stay-bar, liL'and rod N.
Au ordinary crank-lever, l), is applied, foinworking the roller.
The swing-lever arrangements F F' may be so made in different machines as to bring the upper roller A directly on the top, or down at the side, at any convenient given point of the under or drive-roller B, by
slightly changing the main lever M, or the end supports U and C.
'VVh-t IclaiIn-as my invent-ion, and desire to secure by Letters lateut, ismg The combination oft-he rollers AAB, ytube a, swinglevers F F', main levers M, auxiliary lever W, camlever X, and 'standards S and S', constructed asdescribed, `and operating as and for the purposes set forth.
