ELECTRICAL-LAMP W'IRE CONNECTON.
Specification of Letters Patent.
llutented Dec., 27, ttd.
Application tiled January 11, 1910. Serial No. 537,434.
To UZZ whom it muy' concern:
' llc it known that LS'rnnnr sHoowN, u citizen of the Dominion of Sentido, residii'lg nt Vancouver, in the lrovince ot British (lolumbiu, Canada, here invented u new und useful illectriczii-Lninp lire Connection, of
rosette. It is to overcome this ditliculty :indi
to provide n simple und inexpensive uttuch nient of :i brunch cord or cords that the device which is the subject ot this application has been devised.
The invention is purticulurly described `in the following"speciicutioiu reference being inode to the drawings by which it is uccon'lpunicd, in which:
l-`igui.'e l is u longitudinal section of the invention showing' it in its simplest forni, Fig. 2, u side elevation of u modified form showing; un external guide und support for euch push pin, Ltig. 3, un edge elevation oit the suine with the push pin removed, and Fig. el, u cross section on the. line A in Fig'. 2.
ln these drawings the mein pendent wires, positive und neirzitive, ure-respectively represented by 2 and B, euch being composed, as is usual, of multiple strands of tine Wire, and 4 the socket of the lamp which they serve. These Wires 2 and 3 ure-separated utthe de-V sired locution for the branch connection, end in the opening between them is inserted an ovoid body 5 of insulating material the edges oi which are deeply grooved is at 6 for the reception ot the seperated wires 2 und 3. The body 5 is also notched imvurd from its edges as at 'i' and 8, cach notch terminating in u sent for the reception of the seperated Wires 9 und 10 of the brunch connection which it is desired to attach to the moin pendent; to one or ooth ends of which branch, lump sockets il and 12 `ire attached.
ltetallic push pins 15 having caps or Vheads 16 of insulating meteriei are inserted through the. wires 2 und 3 where they lie in the grooves 6 und are pressed through aperg turcs provided for them in the body 5 und through the wires 9 und 10 of the brunch as .they liein the notches 7 and 8, so that an electrical connection is mede between the positive wire 3 o the main pendant und the positive Wire of the branch, und on the other side the other push pin connects the negative Wire 2 of the main pendunt with the negative Wire 9 of the brunch. The current passing through the Wiresrwl und 3 of the nniin pendant. is thus divided at the brunch connection und will pass also tlirough the brunch circuit S) und 10 to euch lump l1 und 12 of the brunch. This is the essential feature of the invention in its siniplest :form: the provision of u ineens Whereby :i branch or bronches muy be connected to the circuit of u. pendent iunip.
The brunch lumps canut any time be rendilydisconnected b vjwithdrfuving one of the push pins 1.5 tur enough out to clear it from Contact with the strand Wires oi the together, und cnn us iiridilv be restored, es the resiliencyv of the insulating wrapping of the Wire has suihcient nip-on the pin to retain it in pince when so Withdrawn.
The sharp pointed metal push pins being pressed through the multiple strands of the wires 2 und t), und 3 nd 10 While the)y ure still bound together bv their insulating wrapping will form. a. sullicient metallic contuct with them to insure un etiicient 'electrical connection und connect the circuit; of the brunch into the circuit of the muin pendant.
To insure that the push pins 15 will be guided direct through the center of the main pendant Wires 2 und 3 Which lie in the groove 6, these pins 15 ure provided, :is shown in Figs. 2, 3 und outside of the groove G with e bee-ring in u smell boss 17 projected on each side from one trice of the ovoid body 5, so as to louve the other side clear tor the in'- sertion ofthe separated wires 2 and 3 und adjacent to the seats at the bottom of the notches 7 und 8 in which the Wires 9 and 10 lie, bosses 18 may be formed on the Sides of 5 so that the wires 9 Aand 1 0 are not too sharply bent over the edges of the notch seats.
It will be obvious that although the device is shown as for e singleY brunch carrying' two lights, there is no reason Why e number of similar branches muy not be connected in one branch connecting body 5.'
Having now particularly described my inbrunch circuit Without withdrawing it ul`v 97eme i i 1 Ventron and the manner of its application, circuits so as to electrically connect one cirhereby declare that what claim as new and desire to be protected in by Letters Patent, is:
i. A device for the purposes specified coinprisiug a body insertible between a pair of insulated main line Wires to separate the same, said body having provisions for receiving a pair ot branch line Wires intermediate the ends thereof to separate said branch line Wires from one another and from said main line Wires, and means passing through corresponding main and branch line Wires and the insulation 'thereot` t'or electrically connecting corresponding niain and branch line Wires Without destroying the insulating covering of said Wires.
2. As a device for the purpose specied, means for separatin' the positive and negative Wires of a pendant lamp circuit intermediate the ends thereof, means adjacent thereto for separating intermediate their ends the wires of the branch which it is desired to connect, and ineens for electrically connecting' through suitable insulation a separated Wire of each circuit Without impairing the continuity ont' either circuit.
3. A device for the purpose specied, coinprising a hotly of ovoid form Qrooved around its edges te receive the separated positive and'negative Wires of an electric circuit and notched :troni the outside edge toward the 'center to receive the separated positive and i negative wires of another circuitE insulation between the several adjacent wires, and metallic pins one of which is pushed through the positive vwires of the tivo circuits and the other through the negative Wires of the tivo cuit With the other.
t. A device for the purpose specied, comprising an ovoid body of insulating material said ovoid body having its edges deeply grooved to receive the separated Wires of a lainp circuit and having notches through its thickness from the edges toward the center of it for the reception ot the separated Wires of a branch circuit which it is desired to connect to the other circuit, and sharp metal pins having heads of insulating material said pins connectinfr the positive Wire of one circuit to the positive Wire of the other and on the other side connecting the negative Wire ot' one circuit to the negative Wire of the other.
A device for the purpose speciied, comprising an ovoid body of insulating material docplygrooved around its edge to receive the separated positive and negative Wires of an electric circuit and notched from its outer edge toward the center to receive the separated positive and negative Wires of another circuit, a metal pin slidable in the insulating body and through the separated positive WiresI` a similar pin through the separated negative Wires, and means for slidably supporting these pins exterior to the Wire inthe groove.
in testimony whereof l' have signed my naine to this specilication in the presence of ,vo subscribing Witnesses.
