To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, SIGMUND WRIGI-rr, a citizen of United States, residing at Phllipsburg, in the county of Center and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Cups, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements 1n paper receptacles.
An important object of this invention is to provide a paper receptacle or cup which will be of such a simple construction, that the same maybe manufactured very cheaply.
A further object of my invention is to provide a paper cup formed out of a single blank, which is folded upon itself, and held 1 together without the employment 'of glue or the llke.
In the accompanying drawings formin a part of this specification and in which like numerals are employed todesignate like parts throughout the same, Figure 1 is a plan view of the blank from which the cup is formed. Fig. 2 is a side view of the blank shown in- Fig. 1 folded to form the cup. Fig. 3 is a side view of Fig. 2, taken at right angles to the same and showing the cup in its distended position. Fig. 4 is a top plan view of Fig. 3. Fig. 5 is an enlarged detail sectional view through the bent end of the blank, and showing a metal clip associated therewith. Fig. 6 is a plan view of a slightly different form of blank to form a modified form of cup. Fig. 7' is a side View of the cup formed from the blank shown in Fig. 6. Fig. 8 is plan View of the reduced end of a blank corresponding to the blank shown in Fig. 6, and showing such end stamped to form openings. Fig. 9 is a side view of the cup formed from a blank having its end stamped as shown in Fig. 8. Fig. 10 isa top plan view of Fig. 9. Fig. 11 is a View similar to Fig. 8, but showing the blank folded longitudinally.
In the drawings, wherein is illustrated a preferred embodiment of my invention, the numeral 1 designates a blank from which the cup is formed. This blank may preferably be formed of aper, but any other suitable material may e employed. The paper blank 1 is'to be formed of a desired thickness and preferably coated with paraffin. As shown in Fig. 1, the blank 1 is approximately triangular and has a straight edge 2 and a broken edge 3 resulting from a cut out portion 4 stamped out of the blank 1.
a detail I The third edge of the blank comprises a plurality of curves 5, 6 and 7 In the formation of my cup, the blank 1 is folded longitudinally upon itself along lines 8 and ,9 to form three triangular wall sections 1O, 11 and 12. As indicated by the lines 13, shown in Fig. 1, thewall sections 10, 11 and 12 are to be folded transversely near their centers. This, however, is not done until said wall sections have been folded longitudinally upon lines 8 and 9. As
shown in Fig. 1, a triangular section of suitably stifi and flexible metalla is disposed upon the wall section 11, adjacent its apex 13', and this section of metal is accordingly enveloped by the wall sections 10, 11, and 12, when said Wall sections 10 and 12 are folded longitudinally as above described. After the wall sections 10, 11 and 12 have been folded transversely, their reduced ends are bent inwardly over the wall sections 10 and 12, as indicated by the numeral 16.
The specific arrangementof the metal section 14, and the reduced ends of the Wall sections 10, 11 and 12, when bent down, is clearly illustrated in section in Fig. 5. It is Worthy of note that the cup hereinabove described is made of wall sections which are held together without the employment of glue, and the metal section 14 employed is covered by the wall sections and hence prevented from coming mouth of the user of cup.
I have illustrated in Fig. 6, a blank from which is formed a slight-lydifi'erent form of cup. This blank is precisely like the blank shown in Fig. 1, except that the Wall sections 10 and 12 are provided with slots 16 and 17 respectively. These slots are disposed near the curved edges 5 and 7 as shown. When the wall sections 10 and 12 are folded longitudinally as described in connection with Fig. 1, slots 16 and 17 Will register. As shown in'Fig. 6, the reduced ends of the wall sections 10, 11 and 12 are cut ofi' as at 18. This neck also forms a shoulder 26, spaced from the shoulder 27 of said head. The wall sections forming this third modified form of my cup, are folded transversely in a manner similar to the transverse folding described in connection with the first two forms of my invention, as clearly shown in Fig. 9. The head 25, is then forced through the registering slots 16 and 17 and owing to its shape cannot be readily or accidentally removed. When this form. of my cup is in its folded position, the upturned portions of the wall sections 10, 11 and 12 will be flat against the wall section 10 and the shoulder 26 will engage the walls of the slot 16. When the cup is distended, as shown in Figs. 9 and 10, tions ofthe wall sections may be moved away from the wall section 10, as indicated by the numeral 28 to form a handle for the cup. The handle portion 28, when in the position shown in Fig. 9, causes the shoulder 27 of head to engage the walls of the slot 17 and prevent further movement of the handle 28. It is thus seen that the neck- 24E is slidably mounted within the slots 16 and 17 to permit of the handle 28 to be disposed flat against the wall section 10 and to be moved away from the same as shown in Fig. 9.
It is to be understood, that the form of my invention herewith shown and described is to be taken as a preferred example of the same, and certaln changes in the size, shape and arrangement of parts may be resorted to without departing from the spirit of my invention as set forth in the annexed claims.

claim 1. A receptacle of the character described, comprisin a blank folded longitudinally to form over apping side walls, said side walls being folded transversely, each of said side walls being provided with a neck having a head formed thereon, and the overlapping side walls being provided with slots to receive such heads.
2. A receptacle of the character described, comprising a blank folded in one direction 'to form overlapping side walls, said blankbeing folded in a direction transversely to the first named fold to form a handle portion, and means to secure the end of said handle portion to the overlapping side walls.
3. A receptacle ofthe character described, comprising a blank folded in one direction to form over-lapping side walls, and said blank being folded in a direction transversely to the first named fold to form, a handle portion.
4. A receptacle of the character described, comprising a blank folded in one direction to form over-lapping side walls, said blank being folded in a direction transversely tov the first named foldfto form a handle portion, and means to connect said handle portion with said receptacle, in such a manner to allow said handle portion tobemoved laterally with relation to said receptacle.
