The` Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the same.

. Be it known that we,':W. S. POULSON and W'. N. PoULsos, of- ,Gadia in the county of Harrison, and State of Ohio, haveinveuteda new and valuable Improvement in Teachers Registers; and We do Ahereby declare thattlie following is (a full, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation of the same, reference being had to theannexed drawings, making e. 'pai-'t of this specification, and to the letters and iigures of reference marked thereon.

Our invention relates to records or'registers for teachers use, and consists, mainly, in the construction andtroverai-rangement. of devices, whereby a Irecord may be kept without the use of' pen or pencil, and

much waste of stationery may beavoided.

'lhe letter A, of the drawings,designates a page of uthe register, iuvwhich'are out parallel perpendicular `slots a a', in the mannershowu, the slot aheing above the slota'.

Brepresents a slip ot' tough paper, nicked at each end, in suoli amannerthatwhen placedin the 4slots p aa?, it will forni a sliding tablet, the main portion of which is in rear ot page, andthe ends b b, by means ofwhich the tablet is moved up and down, willappear in front.

i 'llietahlet is graduated, figures from 1. to' 0 being printed or writtn thereon in regular order, commencing at the top with 1, and ending at the bottom with O.

Horizontal slits are -cut in the page between Jthe slots a and af,- through which the tablets or slips are laced, so as to bring their full Width to view between the slits, constituting the reading of the register- Generally, two tablets are used together, so as to fornr a combination of numbers from 0 to 99.

YImmediately under the reading, and on the page,

are, printed or written such words as absent-f late,

demerits, &c., and over the reading is laced, through the loops d d, a horizontal slip, C, on Which is writtenthe name of the pupil. rIhis slip may be removed when it is so desired, and another'substituted, bearing the name of a dierent scholar.

' By the use of this register, much time will be saved to teaohers,asithereis no need of pen or pencil. Fur thermoie, the registeris only dispensed with when Worn out, as it will serve for' many pupils.

Vh'at we claim as our invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, isa- 'The teachers register herein described,having slots -i a, al, loops-d d, and c, and sliding scale B, constructed and arranged to operate as specified.
