Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed February 20, 1909.
Patented Dec. 27, 191%.
Serial No. 479,177.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, KARL AUoUsr MEYER, subject of the Emperor of Germany, residing at Strassburg, in Alsace-Lorraine, Germany,- have invented new and useful Improvements in Devices for Preventing the Displacement of Neckties, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to a device for preventing the displacement of neckties.
For securing neckt-ies to prevent them slipping, various devices have already been proposed, such for instance, as side hooks and the like. These devices, however, in ad dition to inconvenient fixing possess the further drawback of being visible because they cannot be completely covered. The present invention, however, overcomes these drawbacks completely, especially in the case of the socalled self-tying neckties, and it remains completely solid in use and retains the tie firmly in place. This object is at tained by causing a securing device to be fastened to the collar by a turn of the tie after the device has been fastened to it, so that the releasing from the collar can be effected again by simply turning the tie and the fastening device on the collar is completely hidden by the tie itself.
In the drawing: Figure 1 shows the an "angement of the device with regard to the collar and the tie. Fig. 2 shows a side view of the fastening device in the open position. Fig. 3 shows a side view of the device in the closed position. Fig. 4. shows on an enlarged scale a perspective view of the device. Fig. 5 shows a section through the device ready for attachment to the finished tie drawn along the line A E of Fig. 6. Fig. 6 shows a front elevation of the device illustrated in section in Fig. 5.
The apparatus is constructed as follows:
A piece of steel plate is curved into a U shape and its free limbs 6, (Z, respectively are each given a slight inward bend. The limb Z) of the U-shaped steel plate possesses a reinforcing bend a, and the limb (Z possesses two slots which leave free a middle limb e, which limb holds revolubly the loop 7 by being bent around upon it. The loop is provided with heel pieces 9 which press against the inward bends of the limb (Z, and it is provided either with a pin h (Figs. 1 to 4L), or afastener 2' (Figs. 5 and 6), which latter is preferably sewed to ready-made neckties.
For the fastening of the device after the tie has been tied in the usual manner, it is lifted up and the needle h inserted and the U-shaped loop pushed under the collar button into the collar a. By pressing the necktie on the breast, the U-piece is automatically pressed firmly upon the collar and by the aid of the pin firmly attached to the said piece any side motion of the tie is prevented.
In ready-made ties the end i is secured to the inside of the tie. The fastening takes place by raising the tie in the manner above described, and by depressing it against the breast the closure of the device after inserting the U-shaped piece in the collar is again automatically effected.
Having now particularly described and ascertained the nature of my said invention and in what manner the same is to be performed, I declare that what I claim is:
A device of the class described comprising a U-shaped spring material clip having slits therein forming a metal strip, a loop pivoted to the clip by said strip and having rearwardly projecting portions engaging with aportion of the spring clip, and a forwardly extending portion adapted to carry the necktie, said. rearwardly projecting portions adapted to operate the clip to clamp the same upon the collar when the forwardly extending portion is lowered into position to hold the necktie in place.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
KARL AUGUST MEYER.
