ALEXANDER DOW. OF NEW' YORE,
unir-FILE. l
Specification of Letters Patent. D@ :Gated Bec. 29, 1910.
Application filed September 29. 161C'. Sarlat No. 554,552.
To all whom y1' t may concern.:
Be it. known that l, LixAxnru Een'. residing :it Xen' York. in the count): of New York :ind .Stute oi: New York, have invented certain nevv` ind useful nn'novoments in Neil-Files, of which the following is a spe-cificntion.
My invent-ion relates to an improvement in files for use in the inanicuring of finger nails.
)lv invention consists in making zr tilev haviiig tee-th cut on the concave side so that by drawing it over aV surface u .convex forni is given to the object that is led.
ln order to produce it tile capable of tiling different. curvaturos, my improvement cousistey in melting the tile ot' dii'erentradii of curvature along its length. so thacsuch a part of it. can be used :is is most desirable for producing the particular form Wanted.
For use in nianicuring linger nails7 fries have been manufactured with a tint surface.
and in order to tile :i curve with implements' so constrtuzied, it is nec urv to turn thc Ele on the unil, and :i coiv 'lerziole nnuuintv of skill itt-cessurj to tile the neil of syntnietricnl forni.
In the tile which is the .subjectoi' this inventionf :lifter the nail has been roughly formed with the edge ot the file use/ l in the Same mnner :is if the iile were tint., the implement is then turned. the nail fitted into the concave surface of the file und the file dravfn at such :in angle to the finger :is will remove any irregularities and Forni the sonic to any pzrticulnr desired curvature.
l do not intend to limit myself to u circuiur concave surface tlc concuvitv czurhe made or" such form as to produce :t pointed nail ir" required.
Referring to the draining wherein the suine purr. is designntedrhy the saine reference numeral Wherever it occurs, Figure l iS u plnnviewof n tile embodvingznv invent-01 Fig. 2 is u section on the lim: 2)2 .showing the curvature of the tile at this point; I'io. I.-
ls n. section on the line 23e-f3 showinf the curvature of the tile oir the Its-53 :is coing of diiferent radius` than on tile line Q-' Fig. l is a modification of the section of 'the tile on the line 3-4); showing the manner in which the conczivitgfrg'an he v'zu'ied to form special shapes of nails; und Fig. 5 is a view showiug'the manner of using the .tile to pruduce the curvature Wanted.
o designates ine handle portion of tne tile und T the concave ehrading portion which, 1u .the fern: shown, terminates in the nailcleaning portion 8. It is to be understood, however, that both the handle portion 6 and 'the Iuiil-cleaninf.r )onion 8 ma be omittedb 7 it desired, the ential feature of my invention being the concave abrading section 7, the curve of which tapers from one end t0 the other of the tile whereby the cross-sectionni area of different portions of the file have different radii.
In Fig. is illustrated a modified form of curve whichv is not circulzt': in cros:Section, hut is so shaped esto produce a nger-nail more nearly pointedthan the form illustrated in the otner figures.
While l have illustrated e steel tile having Y teeth cut on its concave surface, it. is evident; that. any other nbrnding surface might; beY substituted for the teeth Without departing troni the spirit of my invention.
ll'nving' thus described my invention, what.
I clmnrns new and desire to securehy Letters Patent is:
l. .i umnicure tile provided with :t concave abrasive surface, the curve of'suid Surfene tapering from one end to the other 0f said file.
A. manicure file hnvinr a concave alrrading surface. smid concave surface tapering -trrurx'one end to the other of the lengt-h of the tile. A
IL A manicure tile provided with a concuve nhrnsre surface, the radial cross section et which decreases from one end, to the other or s d iie. A
5. A nmnicure le formed freine thin' sheety of metal heut to forni a concaved inner surface.v und a convex outer snrfa'ce, the ra 'r dini cross section of which decreases fromone end to the other thereof, the convex Stirsurfnce formed on th( concave; surface.
tac-e being .smooth and havinv .ari-abrasive A manicure tile ornied at one nd into-10e e. itat handle portion, one. surface 0i the metal beyond 21e handle having :in ubredmg surface thereon, und said metal beyond the section of said concave portion decwsivg from the handle. to the point handle being concaved with the radial cross 'e 6A Amancure file having a concave .bn-
