of'which the following is a specification.

-The primary object of this invention is an improved hair wavin apparatus which will .besnnple and durab e in construction and cient in operation to wave a persons hair withoutA injuring the-same. The' invention consists .essentially in a hair waving apparatus embodying two sets o'f'fbars that'a-re arranged to fold one setupon the other with the hair between them, mild heat being applied to the .device as thru h.the instrumentality-of' an electrically eated plate so as to maintain the wavy .condition .in which'the Vhair is retained'as'it lies in between the folded' bars.

The invention also consists in a device of I. this character in which the bars are extensibly arranged relative to each other so that after one set has been folded over upon the other set, the folded sets may be moved or crowded toward one end of the device so as to wave the hair not only by the hair being caughtz in between the folded bars but between one pair of folded bars and the next- The invention further consists in a hair waving apparatusA embodying improved means whereby covers between which the two sets of bars are placed may be easily held inaspread out condition so as to' provide for the ready-placin of the hair in the apparatus, means being a so provided whereby upon the. releasing of such cover holding' means, the two sections or plates of the cover with the bars between them may be Aeasily folded one upon the other, the apparatus thus 'automatically acting to move th'eJ folded bars toward each other in a longitudinaldirection.

' My improved hair waving apparatus embodies any desired number of bars arranged in, pairs lhingedly connected together at one end anddeslgned to be folded one 'upon the other. The bars of the set which in the operation of the device are lowermost are designated 1 and their correspondin bars 2.

- Each bar is preferably former with perfo1ations3,-and each lowermost bar l is also formed with Yside flanges formed with relativelyv short 4teeth 4, the teeth being of any desired number and at any desired in4 by means of links 5 secured'thereto at or near the ends of thc'bars, said links being joined together by a pin and slot connection as indicated at 6. The bars 2 are similarly connected near their relatively free ends. corresponding bars' 5 having pin and slot connections with cach other to effect the movement of the bars 1 toward each other, it being of course understood that this movement is not performed in the actual operation of the device until the bars 2 have been folded upon'the b ars 1; toggle bars 7 are connected tothe bars l and have suitable slot-and pin connections with alternating bars whereby when one end of the bar 1 is pressed open by coil springs 8 as `indicated in Fig. 2, the entire set of barsvill be pushed towardi the opposite end bar covered slots 9 formed in a. cover plate l0 and one end bar 1 is rigidly connected to the spread out condition thereof as indicated in l. Tn order to hold the device open the cover plate 12 is provided with a transversely extending nger 1T secured in any desired way thereto and extending ,across the hinge 11 .tof'the other cover plate, a longitudinally movable latch lf2-being 'mounted on said'last named cover plate and 'being lirnily pressed into engagement with said linger-by means of an expansion spring 19. 3. A hair Waving apparatus, comprising two setsbf bars, one set being arranged to told upon the other set, the bars being forinedgivith perforations, and the bars of r eine sctalieing provided with flanges between which theother bars are adapted to lie, said flanges being formed with teeth.

A hafir waving apparatus comprising tno sets of bars, the bars of one set being arranged to fold over upon the bars of the other set, cover plates carrying said bars, and springs carried by one of said cover plates and connected to the end bars ot' one setand arranged to move the folded hars toward each other in a direction lengthwise of the sets.
