To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, MAssoND MANson, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Youngstown, in the county of Mahoning and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Cuspidors, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing.

This invention relates toAcuspidors, and the objects of my invention are to provide a cuspidor with positive and reliable means for retaining the contents therein when the cuspidor is accidentally tilted or upset, and to provide a cuspidor that can be easily maintained in a sanitary condition.

Other objects of my invention are to provide a cuspidor that consists of comparatively few parts easily and quickly assembled, and further, to provide a cuspidor that is simple in construction, durable and efiicient.

These and such other objects as may hereinafter appear are attained by the novel construction that will be presentlydescribed in detail and then claimed.

Reference will now be had to the drawing forming a part of this specification, where- 1n:

Figure 1 is a vertical sectional view of I posite wall of the receptacle 1, said partition serving functionally as a deflector plate, whereby matter passing through the neck 2 will be deflected to the opening 6 formed between the edge of the partition 5 and the wall of the receptacle 1.

Detachably mounted in the neck 2 is a funnel shaped mouth-piece 7, said mouthpiece having the lower end thereof closed by a horizontal plate 8, while the lower edges of said mouth-piece are threaded to permit of the mouth-piece being screwed into the neck 2. The horizontal plate is pro- The under side of the plate 8 is providedwith flap valves 10 adapted to close said openings when the cuspidor is accidentally tilted or upset. These flap valves are preferably made of a strip of resilient material with the upper side of each strip provided with a gasket or washer 11 that will positively seal the openings 9.

The cuspidor in its entirety is constructed of light and durable metal, as brass and can be ornamented and finished to present a neat appearance. It can also be made of various sizes and shapes without departing from the scope of the appended claims.

Having now described my invention what I claim as new, is

1. A cuspidor embodying a receptacle having an interior-1y threaded neck, a flat inclined partition integral with the por tion of the inner 'face of said receptacle be low said neck and slanting toward and terminating at a point removed from the opposite portion of the inner face of said receptacle to provide a segment-shaped passage, a funnel shaped mouth-piece detachably mounted in said neck, a plate closing the lower end of said mouth-piece, said plate having a plurality of openings formed therein, and means arranged upon the under side of said plate to close said openings when said cuspidor is tilted.

2. A cuspidor embodying a receptacle having an interiorly threaded neck, a fiat inclined partition integral wit-h the portion of the inner face of said receptacle below said neck and slanting toward and terminating at a point removed from the opposite portion of the inner face of said receptacle to provide a segment-shaped passage, a funnel shaped mouth-piece detachably mounted in said neck a plate closing the lower end 01": said mouth-piece, said plate having a plu rality of openings formed therein, and means arranged upon the under side of said plate to close said openings when said cuspidor is tilted, said means including flap valves arranged to close by gravity.
