To all whom it may concmt:

Be it known that I, PAUL T. ZIZINIA, a citizen of the United States, and residing at New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Garment- I-Iangers, of which the following is a specification, such as will enable those skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

This inventionrelates to garment hangers, and the object thereof is to provide an improved device of this class which may be used for suspending trousers, coats, garments or other articles; and with this object in view the invention consists in a device of the class specified constructed as hereinafter described and claimed.

The invention is fully disclosed in the following specification, of which the accompanying drawing forms a part, in which the separate parts of my improvement are designated by suitable reference characters in each of the views, and in which Figure 1 is an end view of one form of my improved garment hanger or suspending device and showing the same connected with a support; Fig. 2 a front view thereof with part of the construction in section; Fig. 3 a view similar to Fig. 1 but showing a modification, and;Fig. 4 a front view of the device as shown in Fig. 3.

In the practice of my invention as shown in Figs. 1 and 2 I provide two similar end members brackets or supports a which, in the form of construction shown, are comosed of a wire or rod bent to form a central L-shaped slot or opening a the longer end portion of which is arranged at a slightly downward and backward inclination and the shorter end portion of which opens upwardly adjacent to the outer ends of said end members. One end of the wire or rod is formed into a screw a in the form of construction shown and the other end portion is bent into an eye or ring a through which the screw a passes and in practice two of these end members may be secured to a support b, which may consist of a door, the door of a wardrobe, or one of the inner walls of the wardrobe or the said end members a of my improved garment hanger may be secured to any suitable support in any desired manner. I also provide a plurality of rods 0 provided at one end with a handle ring 6 adjacent to which is a loop a, and at the opposite end with a handle loop or ring 6", and in practice the rods 0 may be passed into the L-shaped slots or openings a in the end members a as shown in Fig. 1 and trousers or other garments may be suspended therefrom as shown at 0 in Fig. 2.

In suspending trousers from the rods 0, the said trousers are folded centrally of the legs thereof and are hung on the rods 0 and in suspending a coat from said rod, the coat may be folded centrally and longitudinally of the back thereof, and other garments or articles may be suspended from said rod in the same manner.

\Vhen the rods 0 are in position as shown in Figs. 1 and 2, the part a of one of the end members a and of the wire or rod from.

which the said end member is formed and which also forms the bottom of the L-shaped slot or opening a in said end member, fits in the loops a of said wires or rods and any of said wires or rods may be drawn out longitudinally by simply taking hold of the handle ring e and turning sald wire or rod a quarter way around and pulling it out, and the garment or other article suspended from said wire or rod will be detached therefrom as will be readily understood.

The rods 0 may be successively taken out or removed from the end members a by taking hold of the opposite end portions of said wires or rods and movin them forwardly or outwardly and upwarddy through the L- shaped slots a and said wires or rods may be placed in position as shown in Figs. 1 and 2 by reversing this operation, and said wires or rods may also be placed in position by inserting them longitudinally in said end members or through the L-shaped slots a therein as will be readily understood.

In Figs. 3 and 4 I have shown a modified form of construction in which the end members (Z are employed, said end members being connected with an oblong frame 6 which is preferably rectangular in form and also preferably composed of a heavy wire or rod, said frame being secured to a wall, door or other support by screws (Z and the bottom portion of said frame being preferably open as shown at (Z In this form of construction the end members (l are also composed of a wire or rod bent to form a central L- shaped slot or opening (Z similar to the slot or opening a but the end portions (l of saidfwire or rod are secured to the frame eat The operation of the construction shown in Figs. 3 and 4 or the method of manipulating the'same in suspending garments therefrom or detaching said garments therefrom will be the same as with that shown in Figs. 1 and 2 and as hereinbefore described.

The end members a and (Z of the different forms of construction herein shown and described may be made in any desired manner and of any preferred material, all that is necessary being that said end members be provided with the L-shaped slots or openings a and al and that the end members a shown in Figs. 1 and 2 be provided with means for securing them to a support, and that the end members (Z in the construction shown in Figs. 3 and 4 be connected with a suitable frame which may be secured to any desired support, and in this last form of construction the end members (Z may be loosely or rotatably connected with the frame 6 as shown at the right hand end of Fig. 4, so that the separate parts of the device may be compactly folded together when the rods 0 are detached.

It will be observed that the loop or eye a at one end of the rods 0, the handle ring or eye 6 at the other end of the loop 0 are all in the same plane and when said rods are in position as shown in Figs. 1 and 2 the loops 6 engage and are supported by the bottom part a of the L-shaped slot in the corresponding end member or support a, and said loops exactly fit in the horizontal or backwardly directed portions of the L-shaped slots or openings a and are retained therein, and both end members 6 and e of said rods are outside of the members or supports a while the trousers or other garments are suspended between said members or supports.

The rods 0 are so constructed that the center of the handle-ring e and the longitudinal center of said rods themselves when suspended between the end members or supports a fall below the point of suspension at the top of the loop 6 and by reason of this fact the parts 6 e and c of said rods are always held by gravity in a vertical plane and said rods are securely held in thedesired position and retained in such manner as to prevent the1r accidental dlsengagement from the end members or supports a,

but so that they may be easily disengaged from or disconnected with said end members or supports whenever desired, and said rods cannot be drawn out longitudinally from said end members or supports a without turning them through one-quarter of a revolution but the said rods may be drawn out wardly and forwardly through the L-shaped slots a as will be readily understood. With this method of construction the rods 0 and the end members or supports a, a pair of trousers or other garments or articles suspended from said rods will also aid in holding said rods in their normal or proper position, or that position in which the end portions 6 and 6 thereof are in a vertical plane and the accidental displacement of said rods or the accidental detaching of the trousers, garments or other articles therefrom will be reduced to a minimum if not made impossible, and as the door of a closet or wardrobe is the preferred support of my improved garment hanger the swinging of said door when opened and shut will not operate to displace or detach the garments or other articles suspended from the rods.

Having fully described my invention,what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

1. A garment hanger of the class described, comprising two end bracket members adapted to be secured to a suitable support and provided with open curved or L- shaped slots or openings, and cross rods removably mounted in said slots or openings, said cross rods being provided with an open loop at right angles thereto and adjacent to an end thereof.

2. A garment hanger of the class described, comprising two end bracket members adapted to be secured to a suitable sup port and provided with horizontal slots or openings, and cross rods removably mounted in said slots or openings, said cross rods being provided at their ends with handles, one of which is positioned below the point of suspension of said cross rods and auto-matically operates by gravity to prevent said cross rods from accidentally turning in or being displaced from said slots or openings.

3. A hanger of the class described, comprising two end members rigidly secured to a support and projecting outwardly therefrom, said members being provided with L- shaped slots or openings which extend therethrough horizontally and the longer end portions of which range backwardly, and the shorter end portions of which extend and open outwardly adjacent to the outer ends of said members, and rods removably mounted in said L-shaped slots or openings, said rods being provided with handles which project outside of said end members and adjacent to one end with a U-shaped loo-p.
