T o all whom it may concern: Be it known that I, Gnonon R. TAYLOR, a citizen ,of the United States, residing in the city andA county of San Francisco and State/of California, have invented new aiid useful improvements in rlelephone-Mouthpices, of which the following is a specification.
'My invention relates to improvements in the mouth-pieces of telephones into which spoken words are delivered.
1t consists of a mouthpiece mounted independently, and at a distance from the diaphragm-containing portion of the appay .ratus, with supports whereby an open unobstructed space is provided between the mouth-piece and the operative parts.
.My invention also comprises details of construction which will be more fully explained by reference to the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is an exterior View showing the application of my device. Fig. 2 is a sectional View in line with the axis. Fig. 3 is a section showing the transmitter openings.
It is the object of my invention to provide, first, a superior sanitary mouth-piece for telephones; second, to insure a more direct delivery of speech to the transmitting mechanism, and to avoidthe confusion often caused by the sound-waves striking the sides ot' a closed mouthpiece before entering the transmitter.

The most important part ot' the invention l between the mouth-piece and the transmit ter, and thc whole apparatus is very easily maintained in a clean and wholesome condition withou't other attachments.
Having thus described my invention, whatl claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1 1. The combination in a telephone transmitter, of a mouth-piece having its inner end supported at a distance from and substantially in axial line with the transmitter to thereby provide an intervening, substantially unobstructed, transverse space between the back of the mouth-piece and the front of the transmitter.
2. The combination with a transmitting mechanism of a telephone, of a mouthpiece, supports or standards extending from the mouth-piece to the transmitter, and foaming open .unobstructed spaces between` said supports.
