On the outer end of the massage rod 13 is mounted in any suitaole manner a massage cup, pad or other instrument adapted to he applied to the .body o the person being treated.
Within the tubular extension 3 of the casing is the adjusting member which comprises a ring or sleeve 23 slidingly fitted vwithin the said extension. The said ring is provided with an annular groove 251 on its inner surface, A suitable pin or set screw 25 is fastened to the ring and passing through a suitable slot 2G in the said extension provides a means to enable` the. operator to move the ringY hoth longitndinallv and rotatably within the said extension. yThe end 7 of the bellcranl; lever t) extends into the groove. it and revolves within the same when the shaft Q- is rotated and the end of the said arm preferably terminates in a bell or sphere 2T the diameter of which is substantially equal to the width of the groove 94:. l prefer to arrange the slot. 26 in the extension 3 inclined to the axis of the said extension so that a et'insiderable movement of the pin or set screw :2:3 along the slot will cause the ring23 to travel but a slight distance parallei to the asis of the driving shaft The operation of my device is as follows: The shaft "2V being rotated from the motor within the casing l, the bell-crank lever 6 is also rotated with it and the ball or sphere on the arm 't' of the said hell-crank lever revolves around the axis of the shaft. Within the groove Q4. The other end 8 of the bell-crank lever also revolves around the axis oi the shaft and imparts to the massage rod 13 a gyratory movement on accountof the svviveled connection between the end 8 of the hell-crank lever and the inner end of the massage rod. It should be noted thatthe inner end of. the massage rod should not engage the bottom of the opening or bore 12. The message rod 13 is prevented from ro tating by reason of a pin and slot connection :20-2l between the ball ll and the end or the casing. To adjust the degree or amplitude of the vibration or gyration of the message rod 13 the pin or set screw 25 is adjusted at various positions in the slot 26. lVhen the pin is in that end of the slot near est the motor the end 7 of the heil-crank lever 6 will be located to the right of the 0- sition shown in Fig. 1 and the other en of the bell-crank lever will be brought in substantial alinement with the axis of the shaft.v The bell-crank lever will then be r`0 tated but will impart no movement what over to the message rod. As the pin is however adjusted toward the other end'of the slot the end 7 of the bell-crank lever will be moved to the left of the position shown in Fig. 1 and the other end of the bell-crank lever will be moving outwardl from the axis of the shaft. The swivel connection permits the sleeve 10 to turn upon the inner end of the rod 13 hut the said end will he moved in a circular path and the massage' instrumentat. the other end of the massage rod will be given a similar movement.
AWhile I have described one form or ernbodiinent of my invention I do not Wish it to be construed as being limited to the exact structure shown, inasmuch as various changes and arrangements may be inade Without departing from my invention so long as such changes are Wit hin the scope of the appended claims.
