To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that we, ROBERT J. THOMP- soN and ELIGA C. SNoDeRAss, citizens of the United States, residing at Washburn, in the county of Armstrong, State of Texas, have invented certain new and useful Improve ments in Folding Receptacles; and we do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

This invention relates to knoclcdown receptacles of that general class designed to be assembled without the use of nails, screws, or similar fasteners.

The object of the present invention is to provide a novel form of knock-down box that will have its parts so assembled as to be held against longitudinal or transverse movement upon each other so that the box will more effectively resist both internal and external strain than similar boxes.

A further object is to provide a box that will have its interior unobstructed by cleats or similar fastening means so that the box will be adapted for carrying berries, eggs and other fragile articles.

In the accompanying drawing forming part of this specification Figure 1 is a perspective view of a box constructed in accordance with our invention. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal sectional view through the box. Fig. 3 is a cross sectional view through the box. Fig. 4t is a plan view of the inner faces of the parts of the box separated.

Referring now to the drawing, the reference character 10 designates the side walls of the box, these side walls being each equipped on its inner face with a longitudinal cleat 11 arranged with one of its faces flush with the edge of the side. Each side is further provided with transverse cleats 12 arranged on its inner face and each cleat having one side approximately flush with the edge of the side.

The bottom 13 is provided on its lower face with a plurality of transverse cleats 14:, having their ends terminating flush with the longitudinal edges of the bottom and having the lower corners of their ends rabbeted as shown at 15, these rabbeted ends being adapted to snugly tit upon the longitudinal cleats 11 carried by the sides when the parts are assembled. The ends 16 have their inner lower corners rabbeted as shown at 17, these rabbeted portions of the ends fitting upon the end edges of the bottom when the parts are assembled. The ends bear with their outer faces against the inner faces of the transverse cleats 12 carried by the sides. It is now evident that whenthe parts are assembled that there are no cleats or other obstructions upon the inner faces of the sides, ends or bottom so that the interior of the box presents an unobstructed surface to articles carried within the box.

The cover or top 18 is provided on its lower face with transverse cleats 19, these cleats being arranged adjacent to the end edges of the cover and bearing against the inner faces of the ends when the cover is in position. The cleats of the cover bearing against the inner faces of the ends prevent the ends from being displaced inwardly and the transverse cleats of the sides bearing against the outer faces of the ends to prevent the ends from being bulged outwardly so that the box is held firmly against collapsing and against internal and external strains.

For locking the parts in position, cables 20 are employed, these cables being preferably three in number as shown. The opposite ends of each cable are equipped with eyes 21. A turnbuckle 22 connects the terminals of each cable, each turnbuckle being equipped with an eye 23 which engages one of the eyes of the cables, and being further provided with a hook 24 which engages the mating eye of the cable. The turnbuckle is permanently attached to the cable by means of an eye interlocking with one of the eyes of the cable as shown. Vhen applying the cable, the hook of the turnbuckle is engaed in the eye of the cable and the turnbucile rotated until the cable is drawn taut upon the box. In removing the cable this operation is reversed. Y

Each of the sides is provided on its outer face with transverse strips 25 that form risers to support the box above a floor, truck, or other support. Each of the ends is provided with spaced transverse strips 26 which performy the function of handles for permitting of the box being manually hauled about. Arranged within the box is a partition 27, this partition being held in operative position by the iillers used in separatinoi the berry baskets or similar devices carried within the box. This partition may be dispensed with if desired.
