Description
G.'L. LEISNER.
ROPE BUCKLE.
APPLICATION FILED JAN. 3,1910.

GUSTAF L. LEISNER, OF MINNEAPOLIS, MINNESOTA.
ROPE-BUCKLE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Dec. 6, 1910.
Application filed January 3, 1910. Serial No. 535,999.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GUSTAF L. Lnrsnnn, a citizen of the United States, residing at Minneapolis, in the county of Hennepin and State of Minnesota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Rope- Buckles; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention has for its object to provide an improved buckle especially adapted for frictionally clamping and adjustably holding a rope or cable, and to this end, the invention consists of the novel devices and combinations of devices hereinafter described and defined in the claim.
In the accompanying drawings which illustrate the invention, like characters indicate like parts throughout the several views.
Referring to the drawings, Figure 1 is a view in side elevation, showing the improved buckle applied to a rope; Fig. 2 is a front elevation of the buckle and rope held thereby; and Fig. 3 is a transverse section taken on the line 00 00 of Fig. 2.
The body 1 of the buckle is of oval form and, to one side thereof, is a pivoted clamping tongue 2, the free end of which is adapted to overlap the opposite side of said buckle body. This clamping tongue 2 is provided with an upwardly extended clamping lug or shoulder 3, and the buckle body 1 is provided, for cooperation therewith, with longitudinally spaced upwardly extended clamping lugs or flanges 4, between which the free end of the tongue 2 is adapted to work. To one end of the buckle body 1, a ring or eye 5 is connected by a swivel 6. One end of the rope 7 is adapted to be secured by a knot or any suitable way to the eye 5, and the intermediate portion thereof is adapted to be held in any desired adjustment by the buckle proper. To secure the intermediate portion of said rope to the buckle body, it is crooked so that it may be laterally inserted through the buckle body, and the tongue 2 is then turned down so that it will engage the under or inner surface of the rope. When the rope is pulled taut, it will pull the tongue downward more nearly but not into engagement with the body of the buckle, and the clamping shoulder 3 of said buckle will engage the rope and press the same against the clamping lugs 4 of the buckle and will produce or tend to produce a lateral or secondary kink in the rope which will very securely hold the rope against slipping. This clamping or biting action on the rope, as is evident, will increase under the increasing tension on the rope.
The improved buckle described is simple, both in construction and operation, and its efficiency has been demonstrated in practice.
What I claim is:
A buckle with side bars and ends and provided on one side bar with longitudinally spaced laterally projecting clamping lugs, and a tongue pivoted to the other side bar of said buckle, with its free end adapted to work between said longitudinally spaced clamping lugs, and provided with a laterally projecting clamping shoulder, the said tongue and buckle ends serving to kink a rope in one direction, and the said clamping lugs and clamping shoulder cooperating to pinch the rope in a direction at approximately a right angle to the kink produced by the said tongue and buckle ends, sub stantially as described.
In testimony whereof I afliX my signature in presence of two witnesses.
GUSTAF L. LEISNER.
