Specification of Letters Patent.

To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, ARTHUR B. KLEIN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Covington, in the county of Kenton and Stateof Kentucky, have invented new and useful Improvements in Medicated Articles, of which the following is a specification.
The invention relates to an improvement in medicated articles and is more particularly directed to a cigar structure'made up of the usual filler and wrapper in Which a medicament is concealed to permit the effects thereof reaching the smoker during the consumption of the cigar.
It has been heretofore proposed to supply articles, such as cigarettes or the like with a certain proportion of medicament but experience has demonstrated that owing to the necessity of mixing this medicament with the granulated tobacco with which the cigarette is made, an even distribution of the medicament is practically'impossible, so that cigarettes made up of the particular impregnated material will vary in the proportion of a medicament.
The present invention is designed more particularl to obviate these objections and to put withm the reach of the smoker a medicated cigar which can be relied upon to contain an exact proportion of the desired materials.

Referring particularly to Figs. 1 and 2 of the drawings the cigar 1 is made up in the usual manner containing a filler 2 and wrapper 3. In this form the medicament desired to be used is made u in the form of a stick or rod 4, preferably y compressing the vais shown wherein the medicament 5 is in ground form and contained within a readily combustible envelop 6, as of tissue even a section of cigar wrapper.
In both of these forms it will be noted that the medicated strip is entirely inclosed within the cigar, so that in the initial lighting of the cigar the flame meets the. tobacco only, thereby insuring a proper and perfect lighting. Furthermore, the medicated portion except as noted extends throughout the entire length of that cigar desired to be-consumed,'so that during the entire smoking op eration the fumes engendered in the consumption of the medicament reach the throat and respiratory passages of the smoker in-an even and continuous manner.
The particular and special function of the present invention is 'in'the treatment and relief of diseases of the respiratory pa sages, as catarrh, hay-fever, asthma and the connection with the same are stramonium,

I-Iaving thus described the invention what is claimed as new, is 1 A cigar comprising the usual filling of tobacco and a wrapper, and a slender medicated body inclosed centrally within the filling of tobacco and terminating a short distance from each end thereof and comprising a medicament in finely divided form inclosed in a combustible wra er.
