JOHN P. SANBOR'N, OF CLEVELAND, OHIO, ASSIGNOR TO CHARLES B. TU'ITLE, OF DETROIT, MICHIGAN.
ELECTRIC APPLIANCE FOR HORSEE'a.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Nov. 29, 1910.
Application filed May 1, 1908. Serial No. 430,360.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN P. SANBORN, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Cleveland, in the county of Cuyahoga and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Electric Appliances for Horses, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.
The invention relates to an electrical device designed for preventing masturbation by stallions, and consists in the novel and simple construction of the appliance, in the peculiar arrangement and combination of its parts, and in various details of construction as will be more fully hereinafter set forth.
In the drawings illustrating my invention,Figure l is a perspective view of the appliance; and Fig. 2 is a diagrammatic view illustrating the arrangement of the circuits.
The appliance is adapted to be attached to the abdomen of a horse in proximity to the organ of generation, and consists primarily of a support, preferably in the form of a plate, fashioned to conform to the abdomen of the horse, and of electrical apparatus thereon including an induction coil, a source of energy, a secondary and a normally open primary circuit, and a circuit closer for the primary, forming part of the secondary circuit, a portion of the sec ondary,-preferably the closer, being so positioned as to be operated by the organ of generation upon erection, thus causing a current to pass through said organ, thereby producing the desired result.
More particularly, the appliance consists of a plate A of insulating material, preferably leather, slightly concaved so as to lit the abdomen of the animal and forked at one end, the furcations B and C being adapt ed to extend upon opposite sides of the organ of generation. D represents a girth suitably attached to the supporting plate described and adapted to hold the same properly upon the body of the animal.
Upon the supporting plate is arranged the electrical apparatus, consisting of a suitable battery E, an induction coil F provided with the usual vibrator, and the primary and secondary circuits indicated by the reference-letters a and l).
Upon the body plate A and on the outer side thereof is secured a transverse member G, which projects at some distance beyond the face and is preferably concaveol or recessed on its outer edge, as indicated at H. Extending centrally through the member described is an aperture 0 in which is located the circuit closer I of conducting material, the closer being so positioned as to be readily operated in the manner heretofore set forth.
The battery or primary circuit or includes a spring contact secured to the under or meeting edge of the transverse member G, and a similar contact 6 secured in like manner to said transverse member. These spring contacts are normally separated, and the lower member 0 preferably carries attached to it the circuit closer I, as shown.
The secondary circuit 6 is provided with a terminal f in the form of a strap secured in the recessed portion of the transverse member Gr, said strap being apertured to permit of the extension therethrough of the circuit closer. This circuit also includes as a part thereof the closer I as shown, forming the other terminal. l
The operation of the appliance is as follows :The organ of generation upon erection elevates the circuit closer, thus establishing the primary circuit and inducing a current in the secondary. The organ bridging the space between the terminals of the secondary circuit receives the current, the latter passing through no other portion of the animal.
From the description of the invention as set forth it will be readily seen that the appliance may be readily attached to the horse and in such a manner that there will be no current generated except when de sired, the circuit closer being protected, in this instance by the peculiarly-shaped transverse member,so as to be incapable of operation except in the manner intended. Furthermore, the device is exceedingly simple in construction, may be easily applied, and manufactured at minimum cost.
l Vhat I claim as my invention is,
1. In an appliance of the character described, the combination with a supporting section adapted to be applied to the al domen of the animal, of a member projecting transversely from its outer face, electrical apparatus upon the support including an induction coil, a secondary, and a normally-open primary circuit, and a circuit closer for the primary included in the lltl ing section, of a transverse member projecting from one side thereof, electrical apparatus upon the support including an induction coil, a secondary circuit having spaced terminals positioned upon the outer edge of the transverse member, a normallyopen primary circuit, and a closer for the 1 primary forming one of the terminals of the secondary circuit.
3. In a device of the character set forth, the combination with a supporting plate adapted to be applied to the abdomen of the animal, of transversely arranged outwardly projecting member thereon having a a secondary circuit having a portion thereof positioned within the recessed portion of the t 'ansverse member, a normally open primary 3 circuit, and a closer for said primary circuit included within the secondary and positioned Within the recessed portion of the transverse .iember.
at. In an appliance of the character set forth, the combination with a supporting section, of a member projecting transversely from its outer face, having a recess therein, electrical apparatus thereon in cluding an induction coil, normally open primary and secondary circuits, the cont-acts contacts projecting outwardly through said transversely-projeeting member and forming one of the terminals of the secondary.
5. In an appliance of the character described, the combination with a support adapted to be applied to the abdomen of the animal, of a member projecting transversely therefrom, electrical apparatus upon the support including an induction coil, secondary and primary circuits, normally-open contacts in the primary circuit, a closer for said contacts projecting outwardly through said transverse member, and a terminal for the secondary positioned upon the outer edge of the projecting member.
(3. In an appliance of the character described, the combination with a support adapted to be applied. to the abdomen of i the animal, of an apertured member prorecessed outer edge, electrical apparatus upon the plate including an induction COll, i
for the primary circuit being positioned within said recess, and a circuit closer for g the primary circuit carried by one of said jecting transversely therefrom, electrical apparatus upon the support including an induction coil, secondary and primary circuits, normally-open contacts in the primary circuit, a closer for said contacts positioned Within the aperture in the transverse member and projecting out *ardly beyond the outer edge of the same, and a strap forming a terminal for the secondary secured to the outer edge of the transverse member and apertured to permit of the extension therethrough of the circuit closer.
In testimony whereof I allix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
