' ments in Coin-Operated Drop-Boxes, fully described and represented in the following` speciiication and the accompanying drawings, forming a part of the same.
This invention consists of a particular construction for a package-holder by which the top of the same may be permanently,r sealed and provided with a lock-chamber, and the package carried and delivered by a package-box movable downward within the casing when unlocked, to deliver the package below the same. Such a packagebox is made open upon the front side to remove the package readily therefrom, and it is provided upon the top with means to engage the bolt in the lock, to retain it within the casing until the lock is actuated by suitable means. Such means is shown herein as a coin-slide adapted to receive a coin for retracting the bolt, but no claim is made to such means herein. The casing is formed with a. parallel body of rectangular or other prismatic shape, and the package-box is made of similar shape and fitted to slide freely within the casing so asto drop with the package when the bolt is retracted. The back of the casing and of the box are furnished with a slot-and-stud connection or similar means to limit the downward movement of the box.
Figure l is a plan of the package-holder; Fig. 2 is a front elevation of the same with the package-box dropped; Fig. 3 is a vertical section of the saine at the center line of Fig. 2; and Fig. 4 is a perspective view of the package-box detached from the holder.
A designates the sides of the casing, A the front, A2 the back, and B a panel of glass applied to an opening C in the front A. The body of the casing is flanged over at the top at a sutliciently to retain a topplate D in place, which being riveted to the flanges seals the top end of the casing. A plate E is secured within the casing a short distance below the plate D forming a sealed chamber F in which the lock-mechanism is located to operate a bolt b. A hole b is formed through the plate beneath the locking end of the bolt to receive a lug c upon the back c of the package-box. Tongues E are bent from the plate to hold the glass B 1n place, and a hooked flange B is secured within the front of the casing to hold the bottom of the glass in place. The casing is shown of rectangular plan, and the packagebox is formed to slide freely within the same, having a back c, a head-piece or top 0l, a bottom e and sides f, each side having a notch g in its front edge for applying the fingers to the package la, which rests upon the bottom e and which when the box is dropped `as shown in Figs. l and 2, can be removedl from the open front of the box. A slot G of suitable length is formed in the .back A2 of the casing, and a stud H is secured in the back c of the box to engage such slot, to limit the downward movement of the box when it is unlocked and permitted to drop.
In Fig. 3, a portion of the upper part of the box is indicated in dotted lines d and I-I showing the position of the top of the box and the lug c when it is engaged with the bolt D, and the position of the stud I-I when the box is pushed up to be locked within the casing. The glass panel and the flange B which secures it within the casing are both a little narrower than the package-box so that the sides F of the box can slide past the same, and the top D of the box is made a little narrower than the bottom E to clear the glass, as indicated in Fig. 3. The lug c projects above the top B of the package-box so that when the top is pushed up to the plate E the lug may enter the chamber F and the bolt b enter a slot c2 formed in the lug to receive the point of the bolt. The top of the lug and the under side of the bolt are beveled to cause an automatic engagement of the parts when the package-box is pushed up into the casing, the casing being proportioned to wholly inclose the bottom of the package-box when thus locked. To release the box so that it can be dropped to remove the package, a circular coin-opening i is shown in the top-plate D of the casing which connects with a coin-recess in a coinslide J which is movable by means of a thumb-piece R. The bolt I) extends across the chamberF and is shown provided with a stud or roll L against which one edge of the coin K is moved to retract the bolt, when the coin-slide is pushed in by the operator, as indicated in Fig. l. A detent M is shown to lock the coin-slide when thus pushed in, so as to retain the coin in the chamber until the detent is unlocked,` which is effected by a key Ninserted through a j key-hole in one side of the chamber.

The mechanism for operating the bolt is wholly immaterial, as the essential feature of the invention is the provision of the bolt and locking mechanism within a, sealed chamber in the top of the casing, and a lug or similar means upon the package-box to engage the bolt.
Having thus set forth the nature of the invention what is claimed herein is:
1. A package-holder consisting of a parallel bodied casing having within its top, a bolt and Vmeans for actuating the same, a
parallel bodied package-box open upon the front and movable downward within the casing to deliver the package below the same, and means upon the package-box for engag- 2. A package-holder having a sealed chamber in the top with a bolt and mechay nism therein for shifting the bolt, a rectanchamber in the top with a bolt and mechanism therein for shifting the bolt, a rectan- I gular package-box open upon the front and movable downward within the casing to deliver the package below the bottom of the same, the back of the casing and the back of the package-box having a slot and stud engagement to limit the descent of the boX, a head-piece in the top of the boX and a lug or hasp projecting above the head-piece to engage the bolt.
5. A package holder' :having a sealed chamber in the top with a bolt and mechanism therein for shifting the bolt, a rectangular package-box open upon the front and movable downward within the casing to deliver the package below the bottom of thev same, the sides of the package-box being notched at their front edges for grasping the package, and means upon the packageboX to engage the bolt.
6. A package-holder consisting of areotangular casing, with a bolt and means for actuating the same in the top of the casing, the casing having an opening upon the front with a glass panel secured therein, a rectangular package-box open upon the front to expose such package behind such panel and movable downward within the casing to deliver the package below the same, and means upon the package-box to engage the bolt.
7 A package-holder consisting of a rectangular casing, with a bolt and means for actuating the salne in the top of the casing, the casin having an opening upon the front with a g ass panel of less width than the casing, a rectangular package-box having back, top and bottom, and sides movable within the casing at the edges of the panel, and means projected above the top of the package-box to engage the bolt.
8.` A package-holder having a sealed cover at the top, a partition below the same forming a lock-chamber with a hasp-hole in such partition, a bolt movable in the chamber across the hasp-hole, mechanism within the chamber for shifting the bolt, a package-box having top and bottom and open front and movable downward within the casing to deliver tlie package below the salne, and a lug or hasp projected from the packagebox above its top and adapted tol enter the hole in the partition and engage the bolt.
