EDWIN NEWSOIVIE, OF OTTAWA, ONTARIO, CANADA.
CLEAN-OUT ATTACHMENT FOR BATH WASTES AND OVERFLOWS.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Nov. 22, 1910.
Application filed July 16, 1910. Serial No. 572,395.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, EDWIN NEwsoME, of the city of Ottawa, in the Province of Ontario, Canada, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Clean-Out At tachments for Bath Wastes and Overflows, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in cleanout attachment for bath wastes and overflows, and the objects of my invention are to provide a simple and eflective device for cleaning the connecting sections between the bath waste and overflow, which may be of general application to clean out a waste pipe.
Further objects are to enable the device when attached to a bath waste or overflow to be removable from either side.
It consists essentially of the improved construction hereinafter described in detail in the accompanying specification and drawings.
In the drawings: Figure l is a vertical sectional view through a bath waste and overflow having my improved attachment thereon. Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the cleanout device.
In the drawings like characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in each figure.
Referring to the drawings, A represents a bath, B an overflow pipe and C a waste pipe, all of usual construction, the waste pipe and overflow pipe being connected by a horizontal section D, the connection between the horizontal section and overflow section being formed by coupling members F and G, the coupling member F being a T-coupling and the coupling member G an elbow coualin 1 In accordance with the present invention, the coupling members F and G are formed with apertures 10 and 11 adapted to receive interchangeable plugs 12 and 13, said plugs being in the embodiment illustrated in screw-threaded engagement with the walls of the apertures. One of said plugs is adapted to carry a cleanout device H, which in the embodiment illustrated is in the form of a rod 14 formed with a plurality of cross bars 15.
In using the device, when it is desired to cleanout the horlzontal sectlon, the plug carrying the clean out devlce H is ruled which Wlll drawout any obstructions in the section D.
The object of having the plugs interchangeable is to enable the clean out device to be inserted in either side, as where the bath is placed with a wall near the head of the same, it would be diflicult to insert or withdraw the clean out device from the side nearest the wall.
What I claim as my invention is:
1. A waste pipe of the character described, having a stopper and a clean out device carried by the stopper, said clean out device comprising a rod formed with transversely extending cross bars.
2. A waste pipe of the character described comprising in combination, two sections at right angles to each other, a connecting member for the two sections having an aperture therein opposite one of the sections, a stopper in the aperture, and a clean out de vice carried by the stopper and extending in one of the sections.
8. A waste pipe of the character described comprising in combination, two sections at right angles to each other, a connecting member for the two sections having an aperture therein opposite one of the sections, a stopper in screw-threaded engagement with the walls of the aperture, and a clean out device carried by the stopper and extending in one of the sections.
l. A bath waste and overflow pipe comprising a waste pipe and overflow pipe, a connecting section, coupling members connecting 'said connecting section with the overflow and waste pipes, each of said coupling members being formed with an aperture opposite the connecting section, interchangeable plugs for said apertures, and a clean out device carried by one of said plugs and extending in the connecting section.
In witness whereof I have hereunto set
