FRED H. SCHROEDER, JR., OF TACOMA, WASHINGTON.
BAR SPACEE AND SUPPORTEE FOR BEINFOBCED CONCRETE.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I," FRED H. SOHROEDER, Jr., a citizen of the United States of America residng at Tacoma, in the County of Pierce and State of Washington, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bar Spacers and Supporters for Reinforced Concrete, of which the following is a specification, reference being had` thei-ein to the acconpanying drawings.
This invention relates to devices for spacing and supporting the bars used in constructing fioors and slabs of reinforcecl concrete.
The objects of my invention are to provide a device which will maintain the bars at uniform distance apart and at uniform level within the concrete; which is simple to make; and which is easily applied. I attain these and other objects by the devices and arrangements illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a side elevation of my device; and Fig. 2 is a vertical section of a portion of reinforced fiooring being poured, showing my device in operation.
Similar numerals of reference refer to similar parts throughout the several views.
My device consists of `a piece of metal, preferably a heavy wire or rod, bent at one end to form a hook 1, adapted to pass part way around one of the bars 2 forming the re- Specificaton of Letters Patent.
Application filed Aprl 27, 1910.
Patented Nov. 22, 1910. Serial No. 558,!)54.
inforcing; a substantially straight portion extending from the hooked end l and forming the spacer between two adjacent reinforcing bars; a down-turned U-shaped part 3 adapted to pass under the next reinforcing bar to support that bar; and a leg. These spacers are intended to be placed in rows so that the hook l of one of them will come adjacentto the leg a of the next. The hook end of the spacer is supported by the bar which it engages and the bar is itself supported by the leg and U-part of the nextspacer.
The spacers will be formed of such dimensions as will hold the bars in their desired positions and these dimensions may be varied as occasion requires.
Having described my invention, what I claim is A device of the class described comprising a rod having one end hooked and adapted to be supported by a reinforcing bar; an upwardly open U-shaped strrup portion near the other end and adapted to engage and support the next reinforcing bar; and a supporting leg adjacent said strrup portion.
In testimony whereo' I aflix my signature in presence ot' two witnesses.
