To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, JOSEPH S. OBRIEN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Westfield, in the county of Hampden and State of Massachusetts, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Combined Mop Heads and Wringers, of which the following is a specification.

My invention relates to improvements in mop-holders, and more particularly to a combination mop and wringer, the primary object of the invention being to provide a generally improved device of this class, of exceedingly simple, cheap, and efiicient construction, better adapted to its intended purposes than any other device of the same class with which I am acquainted.

A further object of the invention is to provide simple and efficient means for holding and supporting the mop-holder in proper position above the scrub-bucket or receptacle during the mop-cloth wringing operation.

With the above mentioned and other ends in view, the invention consists in the novel construction, arrangement, and combination of parts, hereinafter described, illustrated in one of its embodiments in the accompanying drawings, and particularly pointed out in the appended claims.

Referring to the drawings, forming a part of this specification, Figure 1, is a top plan view of the, improved mop-holder in its operative position, the mop supporting member or bar being longitudinally folded and having its free end detachably carried beneath the mop-handle. Fig. 2, a side ele vation of the same. Fig. 3, a side elevation of the same, the parts being shown in their mop-cloth wringing position, and supported above the scrub-bucket by means of the improved mop-supporting member or bar having its free end resting upon the floor and held in position by the foot of the operator or user. The improved mop-holder comprises a mop bearing-plate 1, carrying a pair of forwardly extending mop-arms 2, terminating at their forward or free ends in a loop-head 3, forming the mop-head proper. The moparms 2, are adapted to rest above the bearing-plate 1, and are pivotally secured to the latter by means of inwardly extending bearing pintles t, taking into and resting in suitable openings in upwardly extending flanged portions 1, of the bearing-plate. The forward portion of the bearing-plate is provided with upwardly extending flanges 1", adapted to rest outside of the mop-arms 2, and supporting the same and preventing lateral disarrangement.

The rear ends of the supporting arms 6, are secured to and carried by a handle-sleeve 8, said sleeve, in the present instance, being provided with upwardly extending and diverging supporting lugs or arms 9, for the purpose of giving sufiicient clearance for the revoluble loop-head in the wringing operation as hereinafter described.

The mop-handle 10, is revolubly mounted in the sleeve 8, and is secured therein as against longitudinal movement by means of bearing-collars 11, at the ends of the sleeve. The lower end of the mophandle 10, is pro vided with a loop-head 12, preferably of the open type as shown, said loop-head engaging one end of the mopcloth and carrying the same beneath the mop-bearing-plate 1, in the mopping operation as indicated in Figs. 1, and 2, of the drawings.

As a means for supporting the mop-holder above the scrub-pail or receptacle 13, during the mop-cloth wringing operation performed by the revolution or twisting of the mophandle in a well known manner, a mop supporting member or bar 14:, is pivotally secured to the handle-sleeve 8, as by means of bearing-lugs 8 and a pivot-pin or key S", as shown, said mop supporting member or bar 14:, being preferably provided at its free end with a foot-loop 1 1 adapted to rest upon and be secured to the floor by the foot of the operator or user, as shown in Fig. 3, of the drawings. When it is desired to use the mop-holder in the mopping operation, the mop supporting member or bar is longitudinally folded and detachably carried beneath the mop-handle as illustrated in Figs. 1, and 2, of the drawings. The means for detachably securing the mop supporting member or bar beneath the mop-handle may comprise, a pair of cooperating spring clamping members 15, suitably secured to the mop handle and adapted to receiveand contain the free or looped portion of the mop supporting member or bar, as shown in Fig. 2 of the drawings.

From thexforegoing description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, the operation and advantagesof my invention will be'readily understood.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim and desire'to secure by Letters Patent is, V

1. In a mop-holder, a handle sleeve carrying a loop-head, a handle mounted in said sleeve, a revoluble mop support oarriedby the handle, saidmop support and said loop head being adapted to support a'm'op cloth, a support pivotally connected to said sleeve andadaptedto fold against'said handle, and means adapted to hold said support in its folded position.

In a mop-holder, a handle-sleeve provided with a loop-head, a handle mounted in said sleeve, "a revoluble head adapted to carry an end of the mop-cloth and to cooperate with said loop-head in the wringing operation, and a supporting-bar pivotally secured to said sleeve and provided with a foot-loop adapted to be secured upon the floor by the foot whereby the mop-holder is held above the scrub receptacle during the mop-cloth wringing operation.

3. A mop-holder, comprising a bearingplate, arms secured above said be'aring plate and terminatingat their free ends in a loophe'a'cl, a handle-sleeve provided with supporting-arms. pivotally secured to and adapted to support said bearing-plate, and a revoluble mop-handle in said sleeve and provided with a loop-head carrying the mop-cloth beneath saidbearing-plate and first mentioned arms.
