To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, CHARLES WV. CALD- WELL, a citizen of the United States, resid-v ing at Roanoke, in the county of Roanoke and State of Virginia, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Globe or Chimney Holders for Lamp-Burners; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

This invention relates to improvements in globe or chimney holders for lamp burners.

The object of the invention is to provide a simple and efficient fastening mechanism for lamp burners whereby a chimney or globe will be held thereon against casual removal and means whereby the fastening mechanism may be released to permit the removal of the chimney when desired.

With the foregoing and other objects in view, the invention consists of certain novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts as will be more fully described and particularly pointed out in the appended claim.

In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a side view partly in section of a lamp burner and chimney showing the application of the invention; Fig. 2 is a plan view of the burner; Fig. 3 is a detail section of the burner and chimney on the line 33 of Fig. 2.

Referring more particularly to the drawings, 1 denotes the burner to which is secured an inner series of spring chimney catches 2 and 3. The catches 2 are provided on their lower ends with angular lugs, which are riveted to the upper side of the burner plate as shown. On the upper ends of the catches 2 are formed outwardly projecting chimney engaging lugs 4, which are adapted to engage the shoulder 5 formed on the lower end of the chimney 6, as shown.

The catch 3 has formed therein a spring loop 7 which is secured to the lower side of the burner plate, and the loop 7 depends below said plate while the free end thereof forming the catch projects upwardly through a suitable slot formed in the plate and is provided on its upper end with a lug 8 adapted to engage the shoulder 5 of the chimney, as shown. The free arm of the catch 3 is provided on its outer side and preferably immediately below the burner plate with a push button or knob 9, whereby said catch arm may be forced inwardly to disengage the lug 8 thereon from the shoulder 5 of the chimney, thus permitting the latter to be readily removed.

In addition to the inner series of catches 2 and 8, I also preferably employ a series of outer spring catches 10, which are also secured to the burner plate and have out wardly bentor flaring upper ends, which will readily permit the flared lower end 11 of the chimney to be forced into engagement with the catches 10, when the spring catch 3 has been forced back, after which, when the spring 3 is released, the chimney will be securely held in place on the burner and cannot be casually knocked off or removed therefrom until the catch 3 is again pressed inwardly and the lug 8 thereon disengaged from the shoulder 5, as hereinbefore described.

From the foregoing description taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, the construction and operation of the invention will be readily understood without requiring a more extended explanation.

Various changes in the form, proportion and the minor details of construction may be resorted to without departing from the principle or sacrificing any of the advantages of this invention as defined in the appended claim.
