IN VEN TOR Altorney* JAMES MONTGOMERY HOWZE, 0F STEPHENVILLE, TEXAS.
OIL-BURNER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Nov. 8, 1910.
Application filed January 17, 1910. Serial No. 538,499.
To all whom tt may concern:
Be it known that I, JAMES M. I-IowzE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Stephenville, in the county of Erath and State of Texas, have invented cert-.ain new' and useful Improvements in Oil-Burners, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to oil burners particularly adapted as an attachment to the ordinary coal stove, my obj ect being to provide a simple efficient burner without air valves or other complicated paraphernalia.
In the accompanying drawings, which show my invention, Figure 1 is a section through an ordinary coal cook stove showing my invention applied thereto.V Fig. 2 is a central longitudinal section through the burner, and, Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the burner and its pipe removed.
As is ordinary, I provide an oil storage tank 10 from which leads a feed pipe 11 having therein a regulating valve 12 and having its discharge end terminating forwardly of the stove A at a point above its draft doors a.
My burner comprises an elongated casing 13 triangular in cross-section, as shown, having a central threaded opening 14 in one face and a longitudinal series of openings 15 in another face, and a longitudinal series of discharge openings 16 in the junction edge of said faces. To the threaded opening 14 is adapted to be attached the threaded end of a burner pipe 17, the opposite end of which is provided with a funnel 18 to receive the oil from feed pipe 11. In this manner, there being no actual connection between the burner pipe and the feed pipe, the latter may be maintained at a comparatively low temperature, permitting it to be handled. Also the feed of the oil may be seen at this point and may be thus better regulated through valve 12.
Tapped into the ends of the casing 13 are a pair of set'screws 19 which extend through `longitudinal slots in the adjusting arms 2() of the drip pan 21 suspended, by this means, below and from said casing 13. This particular connection of the drip pan is of great advantage'in an attachment of this character, in order to assure its t within different type coal stoves in some of which it may be necessary to tilt casing 13 and swing the drip pan in order that the same may be directly below said casing.
When in position within a stove as shown in Fig. 1, the draft through door a is taken advantage of, although a good quantity thereof is drawn in through burner pipe 17 from its funnel-shaped end, theoil dropping through openings 16 on to the burning pan 21, and the gas escaping through the openings 15.
I claim:
1. An oil burner comprising a casing having inlet and outlet apertures, the latter opening downwardly, a drip pan having slotted arms, and connecting members eX- tending through the slots of said arms and into the burner casing, whereby to suspend the drip pan below the casing for adjustment toward and from the same and to swing thereabout.
2. An oil burner comprising an elongated casing triangular in cross-section having a central inlet opening in one face, a longitudinal series of openings in another face, and a longitudinal series of discharge openings in the junction edge of said faces, and a drip pan having arms adjustably connected to the ends of said casing.
3. An oil burner comprising an elongated casing, triangular in cross-section, having a central inlet opening in one face, a longitudinal series of openings in another face, and a longitudinal series of discharge openings in the junction edge of said faces, a burner pipe connected at one end to said inlet opening and provided with a funnelshaped opposite end, to receive oil from a feed pipe, a drip pan provided with slotted arms, and set screws extending through the slots in said arms and tapped into the ends of said casing.
In testimony whereof I afliX my signature in presence of witnesses.
JAMES MONTGOMERY HOWZE. Witnesses:
