Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Nov. 8, 1910.
Application filed March 4, 1910. Serial No. 547,270.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, JOHN H. GUMMO, a citizen of the United States, residing at Waverly, in the county of Coffey and State of Kansas, have invented a new and useful Dental Impression-Cup, of which the following is a specification.
It is the object of this invention to provide a dental impression cup, so constructed that the bite and impression may be taken at the same time.
Another object of the invention is to provide a dental impression cup which, at the will of the operator, may be employed either to take an impression in the case where all the teeth of the patient are gone, or in the case where one or more of the teeth are left in the jaw.
Another object of the invention is to provide a dental impression cup, the component parts of which may be adjusted with respect to each other.
WVith the above and other objects in View, the invention consists in the novel construction and arrangement of parts hereinafter described, delineated in the drawings, and claimed, it being understood, that, within the scope of what is claimed, divers changes in the form, proportions, size, and minor details of the structure may be made, without departing from the spirit of the invention.

In the accompanying drawings,Figure 1 shows the invention in perspective; Fig. 2 is a rear elevation thereof; and Fig. 3 is a bottom plan, parts being broken away.
The invention includes a palate-piece 1, which is dome-shaped, and open at the rear. Surrounding the palate-piece 1, is a U- shaped element 3, hereinafter described as the rim. Screws 4: are extended through the rim 3 to engage the depending flange 2 of These screws 4 turn smoothly or threaded in the rim 3, but are threaded to engage the flange 2 of the palate-piece 1. The screws 4 are headed, as denoted by the numeral 6, and provided with a kerf whereby they may be rotated, the heads bearing against the outer face of the rim 5. Outstanding from the front of the rim 3 is a handle 5, preferably fashioned from a single piece of material and bent upon itself, its ends being embedded or secured in any desired manner within the rim 3.
When the device is assembled in the form shown in Fig. 1, it is adapted to be employed to take both the impression and the bite, in the case of a patient, all of whose teeth are gone. have one or more teeth remaining, by removing certain of the screws 4, openings will be created between the palate-piece 1 and the rim 3, in which openings the teeth of the patient may move. It will be seen that by successively manipulating the screws 1, the position of the palate-piece 1 with respect to the rim 3 may be changed, thus adapting the device to mouth cavities of different configurations.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed is 1. In a device of the class described, a palate-piece; a rim surrounding the palatepiece and spaced therefrom; and a plurality of independently removable longitudinally adjustable connecting elements uniting the palate-piece and the rim.
2. In a device of the class described, a palate-piece; a rim surrounding the palatepiece and spaced therefrom; and screws uniting the palate-piece with the rim.
