WILLIAM HASLUP, OF SIDNEY, OHIO, ASSIGNOR' OF ONE-FOURTH TO C. L. HASLUP, ONE- FOURTI-I T0 lVIAUD HASLUP, AND ONE-FOURTH T0 C. M. GEARHART, .ALL OF SIDNEY,
OHIO.
LIFTING-JACK.
To all whom 'it may concern: Y
Be it known that I, VILLIAM IIASLUP, a
` citizen of the United States, residing at Sidney, in the county of Shelby and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Lifting-Jacks, of which the following is a specification.
My invention rela-tes to an improvement in a lifting jack.
The object of the invention is to produce a light and simple mechanism of the character indicated.
This jack is especially designed for use in connection with automobiles, the object being to use the jack under the external end of the hub of each wheel to lift the same from the floor of the garage, so as to take the strain off of the tires when not in use. This use necessitates a light, cheap, adjustable and easily operated jack.
The features of my invention are more fully set forth in the description of the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which Figure l is a side elevation of the jack. Fig. 2 is a modified View of jack in which the bell crank lever is transposed from that of the form shown in Fig. l in pivoting the same upon the base, instead of the knuckle clamp. Fig. 3 is a section on line a?, Fig. l. Fig. 4 is a section on line y, y, Fig. 2.
l is the base upon which is supported the upright 3 is a tube telescoping upon the upright 2.
f1 is a head on the upper end of the tube 3, preferably having a concave face formed of Specification of Letters Patent.

rubber or similar material which will not mar the hub.
5 is a bracket on the base l. 6 is a bell crank lever fulcrumed in said bracket.
7 is a clamping bracket or knuckle adjust ably held on the upper end of the tube 3.
8 is a rod pivoted at its upper end to the bracket 7, and at its lower end to the bell crank lever 6. The location of the bell crank lever may be transposed, that is, as indicated in Fig. l, the rod 8 is pivoted to the bracket 5 at the bot-tom, and the bell crank lever 6 is pivoted to the bracket 7, and to the other end of the rod 8 at the upper end of the jack.
The bracket 7 may be released and the sleeve 3 adjusted to the proper height in reference to the article to be erected, and then again, clamped.
This jack is very light, cheap and simple and admirably adapted to the use indicated in connection with automobiles.
Having described my invention, I claim In a ack, a base, an upright standard, a tube telescoping thereon, an adjustable clamp on the tube, a link and bell crank lever connecting the adjustable clamp to the base, the standard, link and one arm of the bell crank lever lying closely together and extending in substantially vertical planes.
In testimony whereof, I have hereunto set my hand.
WVILIJIAM IIASLUP.
lVitnesses I. R. TAYLOR, GEO. B. ToLAND.
It is hereby `eertied that the name of the last-mentioned assignee in Letters Patent No. 974,768, granted November 1, 1910, upon the application of William Haslup, of I Sidney, Ohio, for an improvement in Lifting-Jacks, was erroneously Written and printed (1.
