Be it known that I, PHILIP A. BECKER, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of New York, borough of Brooklyn, county of Kings, and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Knockdown Cases, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.

This invention relates more particularly to a knock-down display case.

.The primary object ofthe invention is to provide a. simple and efficient case having a plurality. of members which are constructed-to be detachably held together so that wheh assembled foruse a maximum amount ofspace and show surface is provided, and which, when knocked be made to assume a form which will be convenient for shipping or transportation purposes, thus doing away with an expensive and bulkybox 'whenthe case is to be transported.

Another object of the invention is to provide an-attractive case which may be made partly of wood and partly of glass, or substantlally all of glass with a metallic frame, and to so construct the parts that the same may be readily assembled or knocked down.

A further object of the invention is to provide simple and eflioient means for holding the glass part to the frame portions of the casing, and to provide a case which may be used for advertising or other purposes and for displaying various kinds and character of goods.

With these and other objects in view, the invention will be hereinafter more particularly described with reference to the accompanying drawings, which form a art of this specification, and will then be pointed out in the claims'at the end of the description. a

In the drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of'one form of easing embodying my invention, showing the same in position for use. Fig. 2 is a perspective View of the case taken apart or knocked down, showing the same ready for packing or for transportation purposes. Flg. 3 is a vertical longitudinal section. The case, in Figs. 1 to 7, has two members 1 0 and 11. The member 10 is substantially Itriangular in cross-section and has its rear I-wall 12 and side walls 13 of wood, and the sides 13 are so shaped that the top or cover 14 will standat an inclination when placed in position. This-top 14 has a glass part or v plate 15 and ametallic frame 16 for holding the plate 15 and serves as amarginal wall and fastening means for the top. The frame 16 has marginal flanges 17 to fit the sides and top edges ofthe member 10, and the lower flange bar 19 servlng as a top for the member 11 but held to the member 10. The upper marj ginal flange of the cover 14 is provlded with two clips or strips 20 arranged near the opposite sides of the cover, and said clips are adapted to fit over and clamp the upper edge of the rear wall 12 so as-to properly hold the cover detachably The member 11 is substantially boxshaped in form and has a rear wall 20 to the member 10;

adapted to be in alinement with the rear wall 12 of the member 10, and has a bottom 21, a fronthwall 22, and side walls 23. The front wall 22 is somewhat shorter than the rear wall 20" and the sides 23 are angularly formed, and said member is provided with a cover or top 24 which has one end extending adjacent to the lower edge of the cover 14 of the member 10. This cover 24 has a metallic frame 25 and a glass plate 26 held in the. frame, and said frame has marginal walls '27 which are adapted to fit about the side walls 23 and the front wall 22. One wall of the frame 25, as 28, is adapted to engage notches or grooves 29 in the side walls 23 so as to hold the top detachably to the member 11. It will thus be seen that by forming -the sides angularly, the transversely-eX-tending bar or part 19 forms a 1 bottom for the member 10 and a top for one part of the member 11, and the cover 24 closes the upper part of the box-like member 11 and is made to incline so that the goods within the same, which is intended to be displayed, may be readily seen.

10 and 11 together, I provide grooves in the outer edges of the bar 19 and adapted to enter the grooves 30 are ribs or tongues 31 which are attached to or formed as a part of the side walls 23 of the member 11, as best shown in Figs. 3 and 5. It will be seen that by removing the cover 24 from the member 11, the member 10 may be detached from the member 11, and by reason of thetrianr gular construction of the member 10 and the angular form of the upper portion of the member 11, the members of the case when knocked down may be positioned as shown in Fig. 2, to form a convenient package for packing or for other purposes.

The glass may be held in the frame of the cover in any suitable way, and the cover may be used for various purposes. As shown, the frame of both the

14 or 24; and while three members are shown in this figure, any'desired number or form of members may be provided to form a built-up case which may be so constructed that it may be knocked down.

In Figs. 9 and 10, the

37 and 38 may be substantially the same as the members l0 and 11'so far as shape is concerned, but in this case the sides and front are of glass with metallic frames for holding the same. Here the member 10 may be provided with a part 39 on each side thereof having an extended portion 40 in the form of a bolt or pin, which is adapted to fit into a sleeve 41 which is held to a transversely-extending bar 42 at each end thereof. This bar 42 is carried by the member 37 and has a frame 43 and a glass platef44 held in the frame, and said plate is adapted to form the top of the lower member 38, though there may be more than two members if desired. The sleeve 41 and device 40 entering the same forms a ready means whereby the members of the case may be detachably held together.

From the foregoing it will be seen that a simple and efficient device isprovided which is adapted particularly for the display of goods for advertising or for other purposes; that said case is simple in construction and may be readily and cheaply made so as to adapt it for the purpose intended; that said casing may be made attractive in appearance and either of glass or metal or a combination of glass, metal and wood or other material; that simple and efficient means is provided whereby the members may be detachably held together to be readily placed in position to display the goods or to be knocked down for transportation purposes; and that said members may be so formed that when. the case is knocked down the said member will form substantially arectangular package convenient to be placed in a packing or other box.

Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent r 1. In a display case, a cover having a metallic frame substantially L-shaped in cross section, a glass plate fitting said frame and members adapted to enga e both surfaces and the edge portion of said plate, said members being secured to said frame.

2. In a display case, a cover having a metallic frame substantially L-shaped in cross section, a glass plate fitting within said frame, said frame being provided with an off-set portion adapted to engage said plate and members adapted to engage both surfaces and the edgeportion-of said plate, said members being secured to said frame.

3. In a display case, a cover having a metallic frame, a glass plate fitting within said frame the edges of said frame partly in-casing the edge of said glass plate and U-shaped members secured to the inner surface of said frame for securing the glass within the frame.

45 A display case comprising a box-like member having tongues formed at the upper edge thereof, an inclined portion, a cover having a glass plate formed as a part thereof and a frame in which the plate is held, said box-like member of the casing having rooves along its upper edges to adapt the rame of the top to enter the same and hold the top to the casing, and a substantially triangular member having it's bottom formed of a transversely-extending bar having grooves to slide along the tongues to adapt said member to be readily detached from the box-like member, said triangular member being provided with a cover having a metallic frame and a glass portion held to the frame, said frame being provided with marginal walls adapted to engage a part of the casing of the triangular member and having cleats adapted to engage the upper edge thereof to hold the cover to said member.

5. A display case having a box-like member, a substantially triangular member, said triangular member being provided With a cover or top having a metallic frame and a glass portion held to the frame, said frame being provided .With marginal Walls adapted to engage a 'part of the casing of the triangular member and having cleats adapted to engage the upper edge thereof to hold the cover to said member.

6. A display case comprising a box-like member having an inclined portion, a cover having a glass plate formed as a part there of and a frame in Which the plate is held, a substantially triangular member provided with a cover having a metallic frame and a glass portion held to the frame, said frame being provided With marginal Walls adapted to engage a part of the casing of the triangular member and having cleats adapted to engage the upper edge thereof to hold the cover to said member, and means for detachably holding the members together.

7. A dlsplay case comprising a box-like member having tongues formed at the upper edge thereof, an inclined portion, a cover, said box-like member of the casing having grooves along its upper edges to adapt the frame of the top to enter the same and hold the cover to the casing, and a substantially triangular member having its bottom formed With grooves so as to slide along the tongues to adapt said member to be readily detached from the box-like member, said triangular member being provided with a ,cover having marginal Walls adapted to engage a part of the casing of the triangular member and having cleats adapted to engage the upper edge thereof to hold the cover to said member.
