To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that we, ALBERT Ro'rzEL and MILTON IMBT, citizens of the United States, residing at Stroudsburg, in the county of Monroe and State of Pennsylvania, have invented new and useful Improvements in Combination VVindow-Shade Holders and Swinging Curtain-Poles, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to combined window shade holders and curtain poles, and the object of the invention is to provide a device of this character which is extremely simple in construction, which provides for the ready adjustment of the curtain supports and which is provided with means whereby a sectional pole may be swung away from the window casing so as to easily and quickly position the curtain thereon.

With the above, and other objects in view, which will appear as the description progresses, the invention resides in the novel construction and combination of parts hereinafter fully described and claimed.

In the accompanying drawings there has been illustrated a simple and preferred embodiment of the improvement, and in which drawings Figure 1 is a front elevation of the device in applied position upon the window casing, the ends of one section of the pole being shown in section. Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the improvement. Fig. 3 is a detail horizontal sectional View of a part of the device taken in a line with the adjustable shade supporting member. Fig. 4 is a detail sectional view.

In the accompanying drawing the numeral 1 designates an ordinary window casing and the numeral 2 the improved device which is adapted to be secured thereto.

The combined window shade holder and curtain support comprises essentially a body member 3, which is constructed of some suitable resilient material, such as tin or the like and which is of a substantially right angular construction, as illustrated in Fig. 2 of the drawing. The top and bottom ends of the metal, as well as the edge of one of the right angular portions thereof are bent upon themselves so as to provide a casing and a support for a wire member 4. This wire member 4 has both of its free ends extending a suitable distance beyond the member 3 and these ends terminate in suitable eyes or loops 5.

One of the right angular members of the device is provided with suitable orifices 6 which are adapted for the reception of retaining elements, such as tacks, screws or the like, whereby the device is retained in position upon the window casing. The'ofiset port-ion of the member to that provided with the openings 6 and designated by the numeral 7, is preferably depressed or incut, as clearly illustrated in Fig. 2 of the drawings, and the metal provided by this incut portion adjacent the center of the said member 7 is bent at an angle substantially parallel with the opposite offset face of the member 3 and the edges of this portion are bent upon themselves as at S to provide ways for a sliding shade supporting bracket 9. The body of the offset portion is centrally slitted, so as to provide a suitable tongue which is normally adapted to engage with one of a series of depressions 11 provided by the member 9. The outer end of the said member 9 is bent at right angles to provide an offset 12, the said ofl set being provided with a suitable opening 13 which is adapted for the reception of the pintle of the shade roller.

The lower eye of the member 5 of the wire 4 is provided with a U-shaped depending member 14. This member 14 is preferably constructed of a rectangular strip of suitable material and has its free ends oifset as at 15 so that the said member may be effectively supported upon the upper face of the eye 5. This member 14 is adapted to serve as a rest for the vertical arm 16 of a curtain supporting member. The said member 16 has its upper extremity bent to form a substantially U-shaped extension, the upper arm 17 of which is in a substantially horizontal plane with the top member of the window casing. The portion 17 of each of the members is adapted for engagement with a curtain supporting pole which is formed of a pair of members designated by the numerals 18 and 19. One, or both of the said members 19 may be free to slide a limited distance upon the offset portions 17 of the members 16, and one of the sect-ions 18 has its free end provided with a projecting pin 19 which is adapted to engage with a slot 20 provided upon the free end of the opposite section 19. In most instances it has been found desirable to have the pintle 19 freely revoluble within the section 18 and the said pintle may be threaded, as illustrated in Fig. 1 of the drawings while the slotted orifice 20 within the opposite section 19 is also threaded so that when the sections 18 and 19 are swung together the pole may be rigidly connected and danger of sagging or longitudinal movement of the members effectively prevented.

It will be noted that by constructing the members 16 as rotatable elements a curtain may be readily positioned upon either of the sections 18 or 19 and the said members swung together and tightened and the curtain drawn from one of the sections upon the opposite section. It will be further noted that by compressing the curtain upon either of the said sections and forcing the pintle 19 out of engagement with one of the slots 20,

. the said curtain can be readily removed by simply swinging the section upon which the curtain is positioned without the necessity of removing the entire device.

From the above description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, it will be noted that we have provided an extremely simple and effective device for the purpose set forth, and it is to be further understood that while we have illustrated and described the preferred embodiment of the improvement, as it now appears to us, minor details of construction, within the scope of the following claim may be resorted to if desired.
