CHARLES F. ING-ALLS, 0F LACONIA, NEW HAMPSHIRE, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-THIRD TO FRANK L. CLIFFORD, OF MELRQSE HIGHLANDS, MASSACHUSETTS.
GARTER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed October 5, 1909.
Patented Nov. 1, 1910.
Serial No. 521,078.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHARLEs F. INGALLS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Laconia, in the county of Belknap and State of New Hampshire, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Gar ters; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and eXact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in garters, and comprises a simple and eflicient device of this nature so constructed that the cord or strap will be non-elastic and the metallic holder therefor made of a resilient material.
The invention is illustrated in the aocompanying drawings which, with the letters of reference marked thereon, form a part of this application, and in which Figure 1 is a perspective view showing the device as applied in use. Fig. 2 is an enlarged detail view of the garter detached, with the ends connected together. Fig. 3 is an enlarged detail view of an adjustable hook, and Fig. 4 is a detail view showing a strap used in place of a cord.
Reference now being had to the details of the drawings by letter, A designates a wire which is bent at substantially its longitudinal center formin an eye B and having two resilient arms and D preferably outwardly curved, one arm terminating in an eye F and the other in an eye G, with an eye H intermediate the two eyes B and F.
K designates a cord or strap which is nonelastic and has one end fastened to the eye Gr,thence passed through the eye F and adapted to surround the leg of a person.
A fastening device, designated by letter N, is made preferably of wire bent upon itself to form a V-shaped hole which strap is adapted to be frictionally held in the manner shown clearly in the drawings. One end of the device N terminates in a hook O and engages over a straight shank portion J of the device N, and J designates a hook formed at the end of the straight portion J.
In applying the device, the cord is fastened to the eye G, and passed through the eye F, the strap passed about the leg of the wearer over one arm d of the wire and the hook is caught in the eye H in the manner shown clearly in the drawings.
What I claim to be new is 1. A garter comprising a wire which is bent upon itself to form resilient arms terminating in eyes, leg surrounding means fastened to one of said eyes and passing freely through the other, a hook fastened to said means, and adapted to engage one of said arms.
2. A garter comprising a wire which is bent upon itself to form resilient arms terminating in eyes, a cord fastened to one of said eyes and passing freely through the other, a hook adjustably fastened to said cord, and an eye formed intermediate one end of said wire and the portion which is bent upon itself and engaged by said hook.
In testimony whereof I hereunto affix my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
CHARLES F. INGALLS.
