HATBAND.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, Oris WV. ScHorIELD, a citizen of the United States, residing at Montpelier, in the county of Bear Lake and State of Idaho, have invented new and use ful Improvements in Hatbands, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to a novel construction of hat band, its object being to provide a hat band for carrying fishing tackle, such as snell or gut hooks, flies, leaders, etc., and which will thus be of double service as an article of attire for fishermen and will at the same time enable parts of a iishermans equipment to be carried in a more convenient manner.

The invention consists of the-features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter fully described and claimed, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is an outer side elevation of a hat band embodying my invention. Fig. 2 is an inner side elevation 0f the same. Fig. 3 is a cross-section on line 3-8 of Fig. 2.

Referring to the drawings, l designates the band made of leather or other suitable material, which is provided at one end with a buckle 2 and retaining loop 3 to receive the other end of the band, which latter end is provided with a series of holes il to adjustably engage tl tongue o-f the buckle.

Carried by the band are sets of hooked studs 5 5, 6-6 and 7 7, and between the studs of each set the band is formed with sets of openings 5', 6 and 7, suitably arranged in spaced parallel pairs. The studs 5--5 and 7 7 are arranged in pairs at each end of the respective sets of openings 5 and 7 g while a single stud 6 is arranged at each end of the set of openings 6. A lacing cord or thong 8, having its ends suitably united, as at 8, passes through the several sets of openings in such a. manner as to provide sets of crossed retaining strands 5a, 6a and 7a between the respective sets of studs.

The studs 5 and strands 5a are employed to hold a number of snell or gut hooks 9, the hooks of which are engaged with the studs, while the snells are passed beneath the strands 5a, whereby they .are retained in position. The studs 6 and strands 6a are employed to hold leaders 10, which are looped to engage said studs and have their free ends passed beneath said strands to retain them in position. The studs 7 and strands 7a are employed to hold flies 1l, as will be readily understood.

It will thus be seen that an ornamental type of band is provided which embodies means whereby hooks and associated elements of fishing tackle may be held thereon in a secure manner for convenience of the fisherman in carrying parts of his equipment. The band is at the same time unique and attractive in appearance and may be either a permanent fixture or attachment to the hat, as desired.

As a new and improved article of manufacture, a hat band having means for connecting the meeting ends thereof, said band being provided between said meeting ends with a plurality of sets of spaced openings, each set comprising a series of openings arranged in pairs, a lacing thong of single length passed intermediately through the band near one end thereof and thence having its extremities threaded through the sets of openings and united near the opposite end of the band, the threaded portions of the extremities providing sets of crossed retaining strands, and hooked studs carried by the band and arranged respectively at the opposite ends of each set of strands.
