MACHINE FOR CASTING ANODE-PLATES.

vmetals and objects of a similar character made of soft metal, such as lead and copper. The object of my invention is a machine that will work automatically and rapidly and with molds that are less subject to breakage from expansion and contraction.

Upon a suitable foundation, such as the base plate A, is secured a vertical stud or axle, B, upon which is journaled a lar e bevel wheel, C, gearing into a pinion, which is fast upon a driven shaft, D journaled .upon sald base and below the bevel wheel C. Radial arms, C are secured upon the bevel wheel 0 which, at their outer extremities, carry brackets. These brackets may be of any suitable description, but in the construction illustrated, they consist each of a. vertical post, E, a horizontal outward projecting member, E an inner brace, E secured to the arm C and an outer bracket, E supporting the horizontal limb. Each arm carries a pair of these brackets, diverging as shown in Fig. 1. An annular plate, F, is secured upon these brackets, above the post E; thus forming with the brackets, arms C andwheel. The molds, G, are each composed of three parts, as shown in Figs. 3, 4 and 5 and are adapted to what is known as open casting, z. e., held flat or in a horizontal osition, open at the top and adapted to orm the anode H. It will be selfevident that the shape of the casting produced by this machine is not confined to the shape of the anode H shown and that the shape of the mold will, of
course, vary with that of the desired casting.
I claim as my invention:- 1. In a casting machine, the combination with a base of a vertical axle, a bevel wheel journaled upon said axle, a bevel pinion gearing into said bevel wheel, an axle journaled upon said base and carrying said pinion, radial arms secured upon said wheel, av pair of brackets secured upon the free end of .each of said arms, an annular plate secured upon said brackets, a bearing secured upon each bracket, a mold head securedupon said plate between each pair of arms, an open swivel sectionmold with trunnions journaled in said bearings and making joint with the head section, a rail with curved ends extending partly around the circle and journaled'thereon, a bevel pinion geared in saidwheel, a shaft carrying said pinion,
radial arms secured to said wheel, a pair of brackets at the end of each arm, an annular plate secured upon said brackets, a bearing at the projecting end of each bracket, a moldv head secured upon said plate betwe'en each pair of arms, an open'swivel mold section with trunnions j ournaled in the bearings of the brackets and making joint with the head and a horizontal circular rail with curved ends extending partly around the circle under and supporting some of the pivoted sec tions of the molds, substantially as set forth.
3. In a casting machine, the combination with avbase of a horizontal rotary table mounted thereon, means of giving a rotary motion to said table, a series of pairs of horizontal bearings on the periphery of said table, a mold-section with trunnions journaled in each pair of bearings, a head section of the mold secured to the table adjacentto each pivoted section and making joint therewith and a horizontal circular rail with curved ends extending under and supporting some of the journaled sections,
substantially as set forth.
4. In a casting machine mold, the combination of a plate divided longitudinally and joined with a ton e-and groovejoint, bolts placed transversey to said joint, a coiled spring upon the ends of saidbolts extending between the sides of the plate and the head and-nut respectively, a rim on one end and two sides of said plate, a beveled edge on the other end of said plates, a trunnion on each side of said plate adapting it to be pivotally hung and upset, a head sect-ion conforming to said swivel section adapted to be fixed into position and provided with a beveled edge fitting the beveled edge of the-swivel section 'and allowing the latter to swing upward, substantially as set forth.
