- A speciacauan of Letters Patent. Application mea January 13,1909. serial' no. 472;,074.
Patented Nov.;y 1, 1910.
To all whom 'it lmay concern:
Be it known that we, Fnrnnnrcrr SCHWARZ, :L subject ofthe Emperor of Austria-Hungary, residing at 119 Mariahilferstrasse VI,
Vienna, Austria Hun ary, and HEINRIH .TAtss, a subject of the `mperor of Austria- Hungary, residing at 24 V.Schlsselgasse VIII, Vienna, Austria-Hungary, have invented new and useful Improvements in Syringes, of' which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in hypodermie syringes'.
An object of the inventionis to provide a container, which may easily be sterilized and which may be kept tightly closed Auntil the time of injection.
Another object of the invention is to provide a hypodermic needle, which at a. de-
siredmoment opens" said container'. and pen.
etrates thereinto to a certain depth.
In the drawing, Figure 1 1s a. vertical section Athrough the container. Flg. 2 1s a similar section through a l part connected' with. the needle, showing the needle ltself in elevation. A
The container a preferably in the shape of tan inverted vial, may be made of hard macentralwaperture t, into whlch the neck of a.l
compressor bulb u or some similar-device is fitted. When the vial is filled with serum Y or some other injection liquid, then any pressure exerted by the bulb u upon the membrane 7) will bend the membrane ltoward the interior of the vial and expel some liquid through'the neck like narrow portion thereof. A nipple z' is placed over the narrow portion or neck of the container, the wall of the orifice in the nipple being shaped to fit the outside surface of said neck. ,it its top the nipple i is provided with an annular flange l'. A portion below the ange is provided with :.n external screw thread, the portion of the nipple adjacentthe screw threaded portion being' of somewhat smaller diameter. A thin plate l 4internal thread project througlh of hard, easily sterilzable material servesas closing member 'for the -vial and the nipple; a cap l.: beingA provided 'with a v,small central aperture, isthen pushed overthereduced portion' of the nipple `tightly kfitting thereon, andserves to .holdplate Zin:v lace.
A cap nut m engaging with itsthree the threaded portion ofv the nipple-. 'istherCOVeI of the cap la, said nut-',beingrllikewise provided 4with ,a4 central .aperture 'tinfoil plate n may be placed'betweenythernutm and the .cap c. l; y .f
For the,v urpose of ma ki'n ".jthe .entire structure se f.. .c :ontained'` the A c. osing` Iinembers at the-wider portion of the .container areattached to theclosingS members 'at-...,.the neck by means of aI plurality of rods g, which, pass `through, approximately, circum ferentiaLaperturesiin the, flange It.; of the mppleA and which are .j secured in these aperturesthe ends of the rodsbe' rovided with preferably integrali li' 'llike portions; ,The rods are 'to follow, the outline ofE the vial, ,their uppverj'endsnbeing entially arrangedapertures in ar,plate e.
This annular plate 1s placed on cover plate d and is centered by ay boss projecting from the top surfaceof said plate. A plurali@r of bolts f provided with the apertures in the plate eengage the tdreaded ends of the rods g,-and in tightening these bolts, the plate d andvnipple i are drawn toward:
cure closing means The hypodermic needle 1' is hollow and preferably, tapered.V .Near
of the ndrical -each other, providmgfthereby'tight and seogs,
The container may be filled in the laborai tory, and theclosingmembers secured thereto and to each other by means' of the rodsg and bolts The a'end -Gtlle needle does not come 1n contact with; e liquid until the cap nut m is tightened on the nipple o', and said rear end is "also prevented imm contact with the outer air through the tinfoil plate n. When it is desired to use -the syringe then the cap nut m is drawn onto the nipple i; the' fiange p of the needle is in engagement with said cap nut, and the point s is forced through the tin-foil' plate 'n and the plate Zinto the liquid. Any pressure exerted upon the membrane b will bend loo ' the same towardthe interior of the con-IA p "means for fastening said `membrane and "2. 1A hypodermic syringe-comprising 1n combination acontaner, a,-,membane'closing snjdloontainer at, on`e-end` thereof, e
teiner and .expel a corres onding amounty of.-`1iquid,through.the need e.
We claim:r 4 LA hypoderme syringe comprising inI combination a rifridcontamer, a detachable, membrane' proving a closing means for ing' members for the other end thereof,
closing members onto sald container, said means servmg simultaneously orsecuring said membrane ent'l'closmg. members to each other, a hypodermle needle,'end avldeyioe for exertmg s,- vpressure uponsald membrane.
late corering said' membrane, a' .fseco'nd plte closing the other end of said container, 0 aI nlpple enga 4ng sald second plate, 4a
' plurality of ro s extending from said nipple, saidv rods beinfr provlded with screw threds, a plurality' of bolts -projecting throu h the first named plate and en aging 25 the t reads o n said rods, e hypo ermic, needle rovded with a flange near its 'rear end'an of device for exerting a 'pressure upon sadmembrane.
In; testimony whereof We affix our signn- 30 tures inpresence ortwo witnesses. f" 1 FRIEDRICH SCHWARZ. i Y HEINRICH TAUSS.
