Be it known that I, J. H. PATTEE, of the city of' Monmouth, county of Warren, and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Vapor- Burners;` and l do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, making a `port'ibn oi' this specication, in which Figure 1 is a vertical central sectional view of my invention.

The nature of this invention relates to improvements in vapor-burners; and
rlhc invention consists in the arrangement by which the gasoline or other lightoil to be vaporized, is made to surround the cylinderl which feeds' the burner in a manner to insure regular heat for vaporizin'g, and no leaking of jets of vapor to create unpleasant odors, unsightly lights, and unpleasant, hissing noise.
1t also consists in the simple andeifectual device for regulating the quantity of air to be mixed with the hydrocarbon-vapor.

To enable others to understand the construction and operation of my invention, I will proceed to de' scribe it with reference tothe drawings.
Letter A represents the vapcrzing-ehamber, connected with the'pipe B, leading from the reservoir containing the oil, in the usual manner.
'lhis chamber A entirely surrounds the pipe C, leading to the burner proper, or it may only partly surround it. e
D is a pipe, leading downward from the chamber A, and into the pipe Y.
E is vascrew-bolt, with a point at the upper end,
` tapered, and fitting neatly into a small opening in the -npper end ot' the pipe Y, for regulating the iiowI of vapor.
1I represents a short, vhollow pipe, screwed into the `lowcr end of the pipe C, an provided with a iianged head at the lower end, by means of which it may be turned and the distance adjusted between the flangcdbe'adfand the top ofthe pipe Y.
J represents a hollow globe, supported on the pipe C, lby being attached at the lower edge.
L is a flange extending around the globe J.

First, the vaporizing-chauiber surrounding the pipe C, as it does, the heat'rfrom the pipe C passes to the oil in the centre oi thelgchambcr, and around the outside of the oil by the chamber itself', thereby insuring certainty in vaporizing even at a lowv temperature.
Second, the device for admitting air places the control ci' the amount .of the same under the will of the operator.
Third, the pipe C, passing as it does, to near the top of the globe J, prevents the vapor from passingv directly to the jets, and the globe serves asa reservoir to hold the vapor and produce a regular pressure on the jets, thereby preventing the spurting, irregular burning usual with such lamps.
The lower halt` of tbe globe, being polished, will serve as a redentor, and increase the brilliancy of the licht.
UF is the usual reservoir for starting the light.
Having thus described my invention, f That I claim as new,- 4and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-v 1. The combination of the vaporizing-chamber A with the pipe C, when the chamber A surrounds the pipe G, in a manner to bring the oil from the rese'rvoir in direct contact with the pipe O, as and for the purpose set forth.
2. rIhe hollow pipe H, combined with and operating betweenthe pipes C and Y, for the purpose of regulating the admission oi the air into the pipe G, as and for the purpose set forth.Y
3. The globe J, with flange L and jets S S S, combined with the pipe C, substantially as described and for the purpose set forth.
