State of Tennessee, have invented certain' Anew and useful Improvements in \Tending Machines, of whichthe following is a speciication, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.
This invention relates to certain new'and useful iml'iroveiuents in coin actuated vend- `ing machines and has for its primary ob}ect to provide :i machine adapted for the vending of newspapers and periodicals.
Another object is to provide adjustable actuating mechanism which will erinit of the vending of papers or periodica s varying `in price, whereby the papers vinav be dis-` charged by the insertion of a single coin or two or more coins, the actuating elementsy being inoperative until the proper coin oi coins are inserted in the mac iiiie.
A further object resides in the provision "ofni'eans automatically operated to close the coin chiite after all of the papers haveheen discharged from. the machine. Y
A still further object is to provide auto inatically o iernted means whereby the coin or coins will he ren'ioved from the positions they occupy when the operating mechanism is actuated.

'The coin chute or conveyor lt terminates at a point above and between these. two adjustable pins` and is adapted to discharge the coin against the reduced extension of the pin Q4, the coin lodging and being supported upon a shoulder formed by the upper reduced ends` of the spaced plates Q0. This, however, is only the ease when a tive cent pieccis required for the purchase of the paper and the actuation of the carriers.
When it is only necessary to insert a penny for the purchase of the paper, the adjustable screw 24 is turned one-halfof a revolution, and the extension 25 positioned upon the lower portion thereof or opposite tothe position shown in Fig. 4. The pin 3:2 is also adjusted inwardly until the proper distance. between the ends of the respective pins is secured so that the paw] .29 will be thrown into engagement with the ratchet teeth.
