WILLIAM H. WITMER, OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA.
WINDOW-VENTILATING DEVICE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Oct. 11, 1910.
Application filed August 28, 1909. Serial No. 515,071.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM HAROLD WIT- MER, citizen of the United States, residing at Philadelphia, in the county of Philadelphia and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Window-Ventilating Devices, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in window ventilating devices and embraces the construction of an improved device adapted to be adjustably secured on a window frame.
One of the objects of the invention is the construction of a device comprising end members adapted to hold a flexible air deflecting member outwardly of a window and means whereby the end members are adjustably supported on the window.
Another object is to provide a shield to shed rain and to prevent rain from entering the room.
With the above and other objects in view the invention embraces certain combinations, constructions and arrangements of parts, clearly illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which Figure 1 is a front elevation of the device mounted on a window, Fig. 2 is a side elevation showing the device placed in operative position on a window, which is shown partly in section, Fi 2 is a detail elevation of a holding member, Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the air deflector frame, Fig. 4 is a side elevation of one of the end members of said frame, Fig. 5 is a detail end view showing a modified manner of arranging the flexible air deflector of the frame, and Fig. 6 is a detail View of a frame supportingamember.
eferring to the accompanylng drawings illustrating the invention 1 denotes a window frame having a window 2 movable thereon.
On the bottom member of the window frame 1 a base member 3 is positioned. The base member 3 supports a bearing member 4, which is formed with a hook 5 on one end thereof. A rack 6 is secured to the base member by a clamping screw 7, said rack being formed with a plurality of spaced teeth 8. This arrangement is duplicated on either end of the base member.
A deflector, comprising triangular shaped end boards or members 9 and iron or metallic frames 10, which frames are provided with prongs or fastening devices 11, and a section of textile material 12, is secured movably on the bearing members and the racks by means of supports 13, which are secured to said end boards 9 and are provided with lateral bearing pins 14, engaging with projections 15. The pins 14 engage with the spaces between the teeth 8 of the racks 6, and the projections 15 engage with the hooks 5 of the bearing members 4. The upper edge of the deflector section 12 is provided with a rope or other reinforcement 16, and the middle portions of the frames 10 are bent on themselves at 10 to provide a rest therefor, which rest engages with the base 3.
When secured to the window frame the device will not interfere with the operation of the window and will effectively deflect air from the exterior to the interior of the room. In its extreme outer position the frame of the device occupies the position shown in full lines in Fig. 2 and in its extreme inner position the device occupies the position indicated in dotted lines in this figure, the range of adjustment being regulated by the number of teeth on the rack 6.
Having described my invention I claim In combination, a base adapted to be positioned on a frame, and frames having projections, bearing members having hooks engaged by projections positioned on the base, racks secured to the base, pins on the end members engaging the racks, means for securing the racks on the base, a textile section secured to the end frames, and boards secured to the end frames.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature, in presence of two witnesses.
WILLIAM H. WITMER.
