WITNESSES. 1? hfzllallvggolze ATTORNEYS OF NEH YORK, N. Y.
TUBULAR RECEPTACLE.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, lViLLiAiii \V. BAoLnr, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city of New York, borough of Manhattan, in the county and btate of New York, have invented a new and Improved Tubular Receptacle, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
The invention is an improvement in tubu lar receptacles, particularly those constructcd of sheet metal, and has in view a receptacle embodying a tubular body portion, a tubular neck of reduced diameter and a conical or tapering portion connecting the body portion to the neck, the receptacle being adapted to be economically produced in one piece tron? a blank.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification, in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the views.
liigure 1 is a plan of av blank from which a receptacle embodying my invention is adapted to be constructed; Fig. 2 is an outer face view of the blank, showing the first step in the construction of the tubular receptacle; Fig. 3 is a similar View, showing the second step in the construction; Fig. 4 is a like view, showing the third and last step in the construction of the receptacle; Fig. 5 is a perspect-We view of a cap adapted to fit over the lower end of the receptacle; and Fig. 6 is a similar view of a cap adapted to fit over the upper end of the receptacle.
The blank from which the preferred form of my invention is constructed, as shown in Fig. 1 comprises a body portion 5 having laterally-extending tabs 6 adjoining the trapezoidal portions 7 ext-ending from the upper edge of the body portion 5, and tak ing in the full width thereof, each trapezoidal portion having a rectangular or neck portion 8 atthe top, which is shown to be provided with a laterally-extending tab 9. Both the tabs 6 and tabs 9 are of slightly greater height or length than the portions to which they are join-ed, the tabs 6 extending slightly below the lower edge of the body portion 5, and the tabs 9 extending a like distance above the top of the cap portions 8. In the construction of the receptacle from a blank of this form, the tabs 6 and 9 are first folded inwardly on the dotted lines shown in Fig. 1, presenting the form shown in Fig. 2. The blank is then bent into cylindrical Specification of Letters Patent.

form, with the tabs at the inside, the curving being in a direction to bring the edges of the two trapezoidal portions and their respective neck portions and tabs into opposed posit-ion, presenting the cylindrical body shown in Fig. 3. The opposed edges of the separated portions at the top of the body are then forced inwardly together, forming the completed tubular receptacle, which is shown to comprise the tubular body portion 10, the tubular neck portion 11, and the conical portion 12 connecting the body portion to the neck, the tabs 6 producing the extended tubes 13 and 14 respectively closely fitting and extending from the body 10 and neck 11. The tube thus formed is provided with a joint 15 at one side extending throughout its length, and a joint 16 at the opposite side extending from the neck and conical or tapering portion of the receptacle only. The reduced tubular portions 13 and 11+ are adapted to receive caps 17 and '18 respectively, forming the bottom and top of the receptacle, these caps obviously forming when in place, a finished joint with the body and neck of which they are of the same respective diameters.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent:
l. A receptacle comprising a tubular body portion, a tubular neck of reduced diameter, and a tapering portion connecting the body and neck, the receptacle constructed of a single piece of sheet material and having a joint at one side extending continuously through the body, tapering portion and neck, and having a joint at the opposite side extending through the neck and tapering portion only.
2. A receptacle comprising a tubular body portion, a tubular neck portion of reduced diameter, having a closely-fitting tubular portion extending thereabove, and a tapering portion connecting the body and neck, the receptacle constructed 01 a single piece of sheet material and having a joint at one side extending through the body, tapering portion, neck and the inner tubular portion of the neck, and having a butt joint at the opposite side extending through the neck, the inner tubular portion of the neck and the tapering portion only.
3. A receptacle comprising a tubular body portion, a tubular neck of reduced diameter, a tubular portion closely fitting within and extending slightly beyond the neck, and a single piece of sheet material, with the tapering portion connecting the body and closely-fitting tubular portions respectively neck, all constructed of a single piece of tormed integral with and folded inwardly l5 sheet material and having butt joints. from the abutting edges of the body portion 4L. A receptacle comprising a tubular body and neck. portion, a tubular neck of reduced diameter, in testimony whereof I have signed my a tapering portion connecting the body and name to this specification in the presence of neck, tubular portions respectively closely two subscribing Witnesses.
fitting the body portion and neck portion \VILLIAM XV. BAGLEY. and respectively extending a substantial dislVitnesses: tance to the outside of the body portion and \V. V. HOLT,
