arises.
Original application filed April 5, 1909, Serial No. 487,911.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Get. 41, 1919. Divided and this app1ication filed May 20, 1910.
Serial No. 562,448.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE M. ScnEnLnR, a citizen of the United States, residing at Indianapolis, in the county of Marion and State of Indiana, have invented a new and useful Carburetor, of which the following is a specification.
This application is a division of my pending application Serial No. 487,911 filed April 5, 1909.
The object of my invention is to produce improvements in details of construction of a controlling member for varying the supply of fuel in a carbure'ter in accordance with the setting of azthrottle valve, the structure. being an improvement of the structure shown in my Patent No. 886,545.
The accompanying drawings illustrate my invention.
Figure 1 is a side elevation of a carburetor equipped with my improvement; Fig. 2 a fragmentary plan; Fig. 3 an end elevation in partial vertical section, and Fig. 4 a fragmentary section.
in the drawings, 10 indicates the main body of the carburetor provided with an outlet 11 in which is mounted an ordinary throttle valve 12 carried by a rock shaft 13. Secured to shaft 13 is an arm 14 having an extension 15 upon which are formed several indicator dials 16. Concentric with each of the ,dials 16 and journaled in the arm 14 or its extension 15 is a rotary pin 17 held in any desired position or rotary adjustment by friction washers 18. Each of the pins 17 is provided with a pointer 19 adapted to cooperate with the indicator points of the adjacent dial, and the outer end is provided with a diametrical slot 21 for the convenient reception of a screw driver or other similar instrument by means of which the pin may be turned. Formed in the circumference of each pin 17 is an axially inclined groove 22.
Secured at 23 to arm 14 is one end of an arc-shaped strip 24 which is laterally flexible and one edge of this strip 2 1 is carried into each one of the grooves 22 of the pins upper end of lever 26 is a roller 29 which is held against the strip 24; by any suitable means such for instance as spring 31.
By turning pins 17 any desired lateral adjustment of the strip 24 may be obtained so that the effect of movement of shaft 13 may produce the desired opening or closing movement of the valve controlled by stem 28.
I claim as my invention 1. In a carbureter, the combination with a needle valve operating-member, of a laterally flexible strip 2 1 engaging said operating-member, andmeans for adjusting said strip laterally, comprising a rotary pin 17, having a cam groove 22 receiving the edge of said strip, means for indicating the angular position of said rotary pin, and a movable carrier for said strip movable substantially longitudinally of the strip.
2. In a carburetor, the combination with a needle valve operating-member, of a laterally flexible strip 21 engaging said operating-member, and means for adjusting said strip laterally, comprising a rotary pin 17 having a cam groove 22 receiving the edge of said strip, and a movable carrier for said strip movable substantially longitudinally of the strip.
In witness whereof, I, have hereunto set my hand and seal at Indianapolis, Indiana, this second day of April, A. D. one thousand nine hundred and ten.
