In the device o my above-nieniiened foi-nier patent, when `the projection therein designated as 19 en plate 1G rides upon the bevel 5 of plate 5 to raise the door while saine is being closed, a. crack which allows the passage of. aii' or dns beneath hc door is left between edge 17 andeihe upper surfy face of plate 5, and it is one of the principal objects of elle present invention te obviate that objeetion, oy means of the close copei'etien ef he pars designaed in lineapplieaien as'tlie inclined edge l@ egli plate 15 with the inclined enraee 9 e plaie whereby no crack is left to allow air or dust to pass underneatlithe lock edge of the door in the closed position. Similarly, close cooperation of the beveled edge 14 of plate 13 with the beveled surface 8 of plate 5 prevents the passage of air or dust beneath the hinged edge of the door in the closed position.
In the alternative form depicted in Figs. 8 and 9, the metal plate 5 is omitted, and the metal plate 17 is substituted therefor'. Said plate 17 is provided with a tread portion 18 and, also, with a folded'lip 19 which entends underneath said tread portion and which preferably inclines downwardly from said tread portion. A projection 2O on the under fold of lip 19 is arranged to rest upon sill 3 and, also, to support the lip and tread portion, whereby the weight of the person or persons standing upon said tread portion is prevented from bending saine.
The sill 3 is divided longitudinally at 21 and the vertical portion of plate 17 is inserted between the two parts of the sill,
screws or other suitable means being used to fasten said plate in place. VJ hen said plate 17 is inserted between the parts of sill 3, in the manner just described, the top surface of the tread port-ion registers in the same plane with the top surface of one part of said sill, and projection 20 rests, in the manner hereinabove described, upon a recess portion l formed in the other part of said sill. A plate 22 having a beveled surface 8 may be secured to one end of plate 17 and a similar plate '(not shown in the drawings), having an 'inclined surface like the groove 9 in Figs. 2, 3, and 6, may be secured to the other end of said late 17. When the door 1 is closed, the e ge 11 of plate 10 enters recess- 4 and ts snugly against the inclined surface of the under fold of lip 19, thereby preventing the passage of air or dust beneath the door. j
In Figs. 10 and 11, another' form of tread or wear-plate is shown, and with same (when the sill has become worn or is not high enough) may be Aused a filler 23 preferably of Wood, supported by sill 3, the outer longitiidinal edge thereof being beveled to aline with the bevel of said sill. The wear-plate 24 rests upon filler 23 (or, when that is omitted, upon sill 3), and is fastened thereto by screws 25 or other suitable means, which, also, secure filler 23 to sill 3. The outer longitudinal edge of plate 24 is bent so that it will be supported by the beveled edge of said filler, and is tapered in order to prevent stumbling by those passing over it. Said outer edge of plate 24%.- preferably overlaps the crack between filler 23 and sill 3, and thereby prevents water from liowing into said crack. The inner longitudinal edge is bent to form a beveled surface 26 and is, also, bent again to form a lin 19 having a evier/4.

thickness thereof and, also, because it i supported by projection 20, a thinner wearplate 24 can be used in this form of the device than when the inner edge of the wearplate projects straight over recess l1.
In my above-mentioned former patent the projection therein designated as 19 is adapted to raise the door only from the lock edge; but in the present device the door is raised equally from the' hinge edge and the loclr edge, thus producing complete contact between edge 11 andv the under surface of tread 5, this being due to the provision of the cam members 8 and 14 at one edge of the door and of cani members 9 and 16 at thev interlocking member adapted to enter said'It recess, and a member' borne by the door having an inclined edge extending from end to end and so sloped as to conform to and cooperate with said inclined slideway throughout its entire extent, for prloducing an air tight joint between said edge and theedjacent surface of said slideway. i

3. In an interlocking threshold, the cornbination of a sill containing a recess, a meinber carried by the door adapted torenter same, said sill having at each end thereof a beveled surface extending transversely -ef same, and a pair of beveled members borne by the door arranged to engage said transverse beveled surfaces on the sill for raisin the door equally from both longitudine edges, to reduce complete contact of the first-named) member in said recess.
et.' ln an interlocking threshold, the combination of a sill havin a recess, a member so varranged upon the oor as to enter said recess when the'door is closed, said sill hav iso ing at one end a transversely-extending cani groove and at the other a transversely-extending cani surface, a cam member borne by said door and adapted to ride in said groove and tightly engage same, and another cam member borne by said door and adapted to ride upon said cam surface att the other end of the sill and tightly to engage saine for producing air tight joints between the cam members and said cani groove and cani surface, and for raising the door equally from both longitudinal edges, to produce coniplete contact of the irst-named member in said recess.
5. A weather-strip comprising a sill having a recessed portion, a tread plate secured to said sill and arranged to project over said recessed portion, a pendent member carried by the door and having its lower edge adapted to underlie the projecting edge of said tread plate when the door is closed, one end of said tread plate being provided with atransversely arranged beveled surface extendingI completely thereacross, and a plate borne by the door and having a beveled edge, the beveled edge of said plate being adapted to engage the beveled surface of said tread plate and to raise the door while the door is being closed, whereby an air tight joint is produced between said edge and surface, and whereby the lower edge of said member is caused to press against the lower surface of the projecting edge of said tread plate.
6. A weather-strip comprising a sill having a recessed portion, a tread. plate secured to said `sill and arranged to project over said recessed portion, a pendent member carried by thc door and having its lower edge adapted to underlie the projecting edge of said tread plate when the door is closed, one end of said tread plate being j )rovidcd with a transversely arranged inclinedsurface ex-l tending conij'iletely thereacross, and a plateI borne by the door and having an inclined edge, the inclined edge of said plate being adapted to engage the inclined surface of' said tread plate and to raise the door whileI being closed, whereby an air tight j oint is produced between said edge and said surversely arranged beveled surface adjacentl the hinged edge of the door and with a transversely arranged inclined surface adjacent the lock edge of the door, a plate having a beveled edge secured to the hinged edge of the door, and a plate having an inclined `edge secured to the lock edge ot the door,
beveled and inclined edges of said plates being adapted to engage the beveled surface 'uid the inclined surface, respectively, of
.said tread plate to raise the door equally from both edges while being closed, to produce complete Contact of the lower edge of said pendentnieniber with the lower surface of the projecting edge of said tread plate.
S. The combination with a door sill having an overhanging longitudinal lip at one edge thereof and a member carried by the door at the bottoni thereof, the member having an inwardly bent portion which in the closed position of the door engages under the lip in contacting relation with the under surface thereof throughout its entire extent, of cam faced members securedat the lower ends of the two edge facesof the door inwardly of the lip, and iiieansprovided at both ends of the sill to engage the cam faced members when the door is being closed and, by vii'tuc of such engagement, to pioduce a raising of the door sullicientto estab-A lish the coi'itacting relation of said inwardly bent portion and thel under face of the lip.
