Be i known-.tha't I, ALBERT H. TAYLOR, a citizen of the United States, and resident of Ea'ston, in the county of Northampton and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a 'new and useful Improvement in Hammer- Drills, ofwhieh the following isa specifi cation.
My invention consists in certain improvements in that class of pneumatic tools known as hammer drills in which an air ower feed is provided for forcing the tool prward and holding it in its working posi---' which the valve is.held onto its seat by.

The controlling valve is provided with a through port23and the head block is pro vided with ports 24, 25, leading respectively from the valve seat to the air feed space 26 and the hammer feed space 27.
. The locking plate 19 is provided with a shoulder 28 arranged to engage a stop 29 on the head block'2 when the valve is closed to limit its movement in that direction. The locking plate is further provided with a shoulder 30 arranged to engage said step 29 when the valve is open to limit the movement of the valve in that direction. The valve is locked against unintentional displacement in its open and closed positions by providing the locking plate with sockets 31, 32, arranged to alternately receive the rounded end of a spring actuated pin 33 mounted in the head block 2.
In operation, supposing the parts to be in the position shown in Figs. 1 and 2, the cook 10 in the supply pipe is first opened to admit the air to the air feed space 26 within the cylinder and piston. This will cause the tool to be fed up to its work. The controlling valve is then opened thus opening the air feed, to the hammer by bringing the ports 23, 24, 25, into line. When it is desired to stop the operation of the tool, the controlling valve is closed. lVhen it is desired to reset the tool, the cook 10 in the supply pipe is first closed. The controlling valve is then opened to permit the air with- Q in the air feed space to escape through the hammer.
