FINGER-PROTECTOR.

Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Sept. 27, 191d.
Application filed March 20, 1909. Serial No. 484,754.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, MARIE LOUISE BiicI-I- Lnn enn, a subject of the Emperor of Austria-Hungary, residing at London, in England, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in or Relating to Finger-Protectors, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in devices for protecting the fingers from cold.
According to this invention a number of caps or finger stalls singly or in groups are provided, each cap fitting on to the fingers and worn beneath an outer cover such as a glove.
The invention will be more clearly understood from the following description taken in connection with the accompanying drawings in which Figure 1 shows in elevation the back of a hand with devices according to one modification of this invention for protecting the fingers from cold. Fig. 2 is a perspective view of one of these devices from one side, and Fig. 3 a perspective view from the opposite side to that shown in Fig. 2; Fig. t shows an elevation of a device constructed according to another modification of this invention.
Like letters indicate like parts through out the drawings.
Referring to Figs. 1 to 3, there is provided for each finger a cap A which is preferably made of paper. The cap A is provided with an extension or tab A having on the side worn adjacent to the finger a gummed portion A On the opposite side to the tab A there is a V-shaped slit A for the purpose of permitting the fingers to be easily bent. The gummed portion A is moistened before fixing the cap in position on the finger so that it is held in position.
The devices are intended to be worn beneath gloves and in Fig. 1 the glove is indicated by a broken line.
Referring to Fig. 4 caps or covers B are provided for each of the fingers but these instead of being separate as in Fig. 1 are joined together and an extension B is arranged to cover the back of the hand. The palm of the hand is not covered by the de vice. The end of the extension B is provided with a gummed portion B on the side adjacent to the wrist whereby it can be firmly fixed in position, as with the 1nodifi cation shown in Fig. 1, the device is intended to be worn beneath a glove and this is indicated by a broken line.
It will be obvious that this invention may be applied for covering the feet and toes, as well as the hands and fingers.
The caps or covers are preferably made of paper as mentioned above, but rubber or kid or other suitable material may be employed. Some fatty substance may 01' may not be added on the inside of these caps or covers.
In the case of using the caps to cover the fingers the caps may be permanently fixed in the gloves and sold in this form integral with the glove.
It is obvious that various other modifications may be made in carrying this invention into effect. For example, instead of the provision of a gummed portion for holding the caps or covers in position, other suitable means may be employed.
that I claim as my invention and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. A protector of the character described, consisting of a cover or stall substantially the full length of the finger, made of paper or like material of a somewhat stiff character, and having its inner end cut of]? at substantially a right angle to its axial line, the inner side of the stall being slitted from its inner end to a point beyond the second joint of the finger when the stall is in use, and a tab being provided, projecting from the rear side of the inner end opposite to the slit.
2. A protector of the character described, comprising a series of covers or stalls for the fingers, each having in the front inner edge thereof a V-shaped opening, and a tab, common to all of the covers, secured to the back inner edge thereof, substantially as described.
3. A protector of the character described,
comprising a series of covers or stalls for the In testimony whereof I have signed my fingers, each havmg 1n the front mner edge name to thls spec1ficat1on 1n the presence of thereof EL V-shaped openlng, and a tab, comtwo subscrlbmg W1tnesses.
mon to all of the covers, secured to the back MARIE LOUISE BUOHLER WARD. 5 inner edge thereof, said common tab taking Vitnesses:
the form of it protector for the back of HARRY B. BRIDGE,
the hand. V. H. DERRIMAN.
