Description

weitet tatet @anni @Wire THOMAS LORING, OF BLACKWOODTOWN, NEW JERSEY.
Letters Patent No. 97,098, dated November 23,f`1 ,869.
IMPROVEMENT IN GRINDSTONES.
The Schedule referred to these Letters Patent and making part o! the same.
purchaser, without diiiculty.
rIhe improvements consist in the construction of the tiame crease, surrounding and enclosing the driving-\vheel, and the pinion on the arbor or shaft of the stone, and the manner in which the stone is secured to such arbor, and in the arrangement oi' the different parts relatively to each other, as hereinafterdescribed.
To enable those skilled in the art to make and use my invention, I will "proceed to describe its construction and operation.
' In the annexed drawings- Figure 1 represents a front elevation of the device, showing it attached to the ledge of' a table.
Figure 2 represents a central vertical section thereof.
A is the front part of the case, and B, its back, the lower end of whiciLis prolonged, and formed into the `)aws or brackets a a, by which to secure it to a ledge or table, C, byA means of the thumb-screw b.
D is the driving-wheel, gearing vinto thepinion E, to the shaft or' arbor of which the grindstone F is sccured, as shown in fig. 2. A
A dovetailed hub or bushing, d, being cemented accurately in the centre or eye of the stone, and fitting closely upon the tapering arbor, and held by the washer and screw c, permits thc ready removal ofthe stone for packing, and its accurate replacement and readjustment, when received and put up by the pur-- chaser.
Several sizes of stoncs, each having the same sizeof bushing, are adapted to each number or size of the driving-mechanism, and its frame' or case.
For facility and safety in transportation, the stone and crank are both detached, when prepared for packing, to avoid any danger of breakage.
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The grindstone F, with hub or bushing d, arborand pinion E, driving-wheel D, and the case A B, with jaws a, a, all constructed and arranged as described.
THOS. LORING.
