Application filed August 30, 1909. Serial No. 515,248.
Manchester, in the county of Delaware and State of Iowa, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Neck-Yoke Centers; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to improvements in neck yoke centers.
One object of the invention is to provide a neck yoke center or pole holder having an improved means for connecting the same to the neck yoke whereby a limited amount of play is provided for the yoke, thus reducing the danger of the center breaking where the same is connected to the yoke.
Another object is to provide a self adjustable center or pole holder of this character, the construction of which provides a double support for the pole and eliminates the necessity of stitching the holder adjacent to the under side of the yoke and the ends being disengaged to permit the movement of one relatively to the other to prevent cracking and breaking of the leather.
With the foregoing and other objects in view, the invention consists of certain novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts, as will be more fully described and particularly pointed out in the appended claim.
In the accompanying drawings: Figure 1 is a perspective view of a portion of a neck yoke, showing the application of my invention thereto; Fig. 2 is a central vertical cross-sectional view of the same.
Referring more particularly to the drawing, 1 denotes my improved neck yoke center or pole holder which is preferably constructed of two or more thicknesses or layers of heavy leather cut into the proper shape and stitched together around the edges and in the center, as shown. In forming the sup port, the ends of the leather strap so formed are brought to ether in overlapping relation and secure by a bolt or rivet 2, to form a oke en aging loop 3, and double pole ho ding en s 4:. In the engaged ends 4:, of the holder below the bolt 2, are formed alined pole receiving apertures 5, around which is formed a row of stitching whereby the edges of the holes are reinforced.
It will be noted that the bolt 2, which secures the ends of the loop of the holder together, is arranged a considerable distance below the part of the loop engaged by the yoke or in other words, the loop is of considerably greater length than the diameter of the yoke. The upper portion of the center is secured to the yoke by a screw or bolt 6, whereby the yoke is held in the upper larger portion of the loop.
By forming an elongated loop in the upper portion of the holder and securing the yoke in the loop in the manner described, the yoke will be permitted to have a limited amount of play in the holder and consequently the movement of the yoke is not so apt to break the holder, as frequently occurs when the loop in the latter is approximately of the same diameter as the yoke and is stitched through below the yoke to form the loop and the overlapping apertured ends are disconnected to permit them to move relatively to each other and allow the respective ends to bend and thus prevent cracking and breaking of the leather.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim is:
The combination with a yoke, of a vehicle pole holder comprisin a plurality of pieces of flexible material f0 ded together in sections to provide a loop on one portion of the holder which is of greater diameter than said yoke, a bolt inserted through the loop and into the yoke to hold said parts together, a single bolt inserted through the central portions of the sections of the holder and being the sole means of holding said sections together and also to form said loop, thus permitting the yoke to have a limited free movement within the loop, and said sections of the holder having registering apertures to receive the pole of the vehicle.
