Be it known that I, ORAZIO PASCALE, a citizen of the United States, residing in the borough of Manhattan, city, county, and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Portable Inclosures for Photographic Purposes, of which the following is a specification.

My invention is designed to afford a simple, light weight, folding and portable screen or canopy for the use of photographers, by means of which sensitive plates or films may be safely and conveniently transferred, developed or otherwise manipulated under circumstances and conditions where the ordinary dark room is not available.

My invention consists in the specific construction and arrangement of parts hereinafter described and claimed.

In the accompanying drawings, Figures 1, 2 and 8, are respectively side and end elevations of a foldable holder or Valise adapted to contain my canopy for storage and transportation; Fig. 4, is top view of the holder opened up, but before the erection of the canopy; Fig. 5, is a like view showing the canopy raised and in condition for use; Fig. 6, is transverse sectional View taken upon plane of line 66, Fig. 5; Fig. 7, is a detail view of one of the folding braces.

The inclosure or canopy is formed of any suitable flexible light proof material, preferably though not necessarily water proof as well.

a, is the floor sheet which is secured to a supporting base B, which latter is preferably foldable, and may consist, as shown in the drawings, of the two sides Z), Z), of a hand valise hinged to a central section b, in which case the rectangular members 6 inclose and protect the canopy when the valise is closed. In any case the holder or base 13, is provided with suitable fastenings 6 for maintaining it in a closed position, and with a handle 6 by which the device may be conveniently transported.

Semi-circular end frames 6, c, pivotally attached to the base B, support the end sections a, a, of the canopy. The roof portion c of the canopy is also attached to the end frames 6, e, which are each provided with folding braces (Z, (Z, each pivoted at one end to a frame 6, and formed at the other with a loop cl, for engagement with a stud (Z on the base 13.

The front side of the roof section a of the canopy is extended downward to form a curtain a, which covers the longitudinal opening 0, through which articles and materials are introduced under the canopy or removed therefrom when said canopy is in its erected position. To facilitate the operation as well as for the convenience of the operator when using the armlets (4 a, I hinge the side flanges a (4 adjacent to and below the opening 0, so that they may beturned down out of the way.

A non-actinic window w, of preferably celluloid or other flexible resilient material is inserted in the roof section (4 of the canopy, as are also non-actinic eye sights s, s, in positions convenient for illumination and observation. Armlets a, a, are also incorporated in the roof section c of the canopy, provided with elastic contracting bands 2', i, which close the wrist openings when not in use and insure a close fit when applied to the arms of the operator.

Thus constructed and arranged my canopy affords a safe and convenient means for effecting the manipulation of photographic materials of any kind and for any purpose. In it plates or films may be quickly and conveniently changed, inspected or developed even out of doors and in situations where a dark room is not available for the purpose. It is only necessary to spread out the base B, raise the end frames 6, c, and secure them in their upright position by means of the braces (Z, (Z, when the canopy is ready for instantaneous use, and it may be as readily collapsed, and folded up for transportation or storage. Thus I afford a compact, portable device for the use of tourists and others, which is always available and not subject to external conditions or situations.

What I claim as my invention and desire to secure by Letters Patent is,

1. A portable inclosure of the character set forth, comprising a foldable base, consisting of side members hinged to a central section, a floor sheet covering and secured to said. foldable base, semicircular end frames pivotally secured to said base, a flexible canopy body and end sections secured to said end frames, folding braces pivotally attached to said end frames and adapted to sustain them in their upright positions, and a non-actinic window and nonactinic eye sights in said canopy body, the

latter being also formed With elastic armlets, all for the purpose and substantially in the manner described.

2. A portable inclosure of the character set forth, comprising a foldable base consisting of a central section b,- and flanged side members 6, b, hinged to said central section b, and formed With hinged flange sections a a a floor sheet secured to said foldable base, semi-circular end frames pivotally secured to said base, a flexible canopy body and end sections secured to said end frames, folding braces pivotally attached to said end frames and adapted to sustain them in their upright positions, and a non-actinic Window and non-actinic eye sights in N said canopy body, the latter also being formed With elastic armlets, all for the purpose and substantially in the manner described.

3. A portable inclosure of the character set forth, comprising a foldable base, semicircular end frames pivotally secured thereto, a flexible canopy and end sections secured to said end frames, folding braces each pivotally attached at one extremity to an end frame and formed with a loop, studs on the base for engagement with the looped ends of the folding braces, and a non-actinic Window and non-actinic eye sights in said canopy body, the latter being formed With elastic armlets, all for the purpose and substantially in the manner described.

4. A portable inclosure of the character set forth, comprising a foldable base B, consisting of a central section Z), hinged side sections 1), 1), formed with the hinged flanged sections a (H, the floor sheet a, the semicircular end frames 6, e, pivotally attached to the foldable base, the flexible roof a and end sections a, a, forming the canopy attached to the said end frames 0, e, the folding braces (Z, (Z, pivotally attached to said end frames 6, and formed with the end loops cl, the studs (P, on the base for engagement with said loops (Z, the elastic armlets a, a, forming part of the canopy, and the non-actinic Window 10, and eye sights s, s, also forming part of the canopy, substantially as and for the purpose described.
